LIFT: The Beginning

Lindsay Burke is the founder of LIFT Child and Family, serving many as a licensed psychotherapist, consultant, behavior interventionist and educator.

With over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults and their families in various home, school, clinical and hospital settings, Lindsay has developed a unique approach which she adjusts to fit each individual's specific needs. Known for her warm, playful and strength-based approach during her interventions, she aims to inspire hope and strengthen bonds within families and relationships by creating a safe environment which promotes and reinforces growth and healing.

Lindsay began watching children, including those with special needs, in her small-town church nursery as early as 12 years of age. Quickly realizing she had a knack for working with kids she began babysitting, nannying and teaching martial arts classes to young children, which she continued into her mid-twenties. Her passion for working with children and individuals in a mental health capacity grew as she began supporting wheelchair-bound clients in pool therapy, quickly noticing the mind-body connection. She also began incorporating her training in martial arts by teaching assertiveness training to at-risk girls and young women. She found martial arts to be a tremendous resource for clients in developing perseverance, compassion, humility and mindfulness.

In her early adult years, Lindsay traveled with several other nationally recognized martial artists to teach violence prevention workshops and seminars, realizing not only her passion for mental health and wellness education but preventative programming. Lindsay attended the University of Kentucky where she joined the amazing Dr. Dorothy Edwards at the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center in providing services for young survivors of abuse, promoting opportunities for successful living and introducing prevention-focused programming to the local community. After facilitating and co-facilitating city/state-wide educational programs, she was asked to participate in the Department of Justice Office of Violence regional Conference and was recognized as one of the "Women Leading the Way" by the University of Kentucky's President's Commission on Women. She has since joined the LiveTheGreenDot movement by advocating for more early intervention opportunities targeting young children in order to prevent them from growing into violent adults.
