I heard it was National , and if there's one thing I love doing, it's drawing a bird. I couldn't let it pass me by!

Throwing it back to a drawing of one of my favorite birds, the anhinga. I love their noodle necks and the way they sunbathe so that their wings can dry out. Unfortunately, I don't live in the same region of the country as the anhinga right now, but I always love to spot them when I travel south!

What's your favorite bird? 🪶

That’s a wrap! 🎉

This was my fourth time doing an October drawing challenge, but my first time doing Peachtober! Gone are the days when I could draw the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen in the margins of my undergrad notes for Inktober 😂 But I loved doing those and the unpolished qualities they had. These challenges and Instagram have both evolved so much since I did my first one in 2017. I so enjoy these full color daily illustrations, but wow they do take time! I’ve found it helps me to set rules, so I established a color palette, some parameters for the compositions, and a style to stay within, which helped keep everything in check.

Thanks for following along! Can’t wait for next October!

spider 🕸

I’m personally not a fan of spiders, especially when they’re in my house. But I can respect them, just minding their own business eating (harmful) bugs and weaving really cool webs. Despite that, I could not bring myself to draw a giant spider for this prompt, so instead I drew a very spooky spider web. And that’s a wrap on Peachtober!

Happy Halloween, y’all! 🎃👻

pearl 🐚

This one feels unapologetically Florida chic. I didn’t know that pearls could be created by several different types of mollusks (oysters, clams, whelks, and more) which is what inspired me to draw a variety of shells!

Back to medical illustration for today!!! A quick little infographic about fracture types for today’s prompt, break.

🦴A greenstick fracture means that the bone bends and cracks, much like a broken tree branch that is green on the inside.
🦴A comminuted fracture is one where the bone is broken into 3 or more pieces.
🦴A transverse fracture is horizontal and perpendicular to the length of the bone.
🦴A displaced fracture means that the part of the bone has moved out of alignment with the other part of the bone.
🦴A spiral fracture occurs when a long bone like the thigh bone (femur) is broken by a twisting motion.
🦴An oblique fracture is a break at an angle to the direction of the bone.

A lil grasshopper 🌾

But actually, this was based on a huge grasshopper I saw when I went to the garden center a few weeks ago. It was probably 4+ inches long! Hopped right in front of me and legit stopped me in my tracks.

backpack 🎒

I got a little creative with this prompt and went for a possum mom and her babies! Yes, I call them possums, not opossums because I'm from Kentucky 😂 but this species truly is a Virginia opossum. Some people are not into these guys, but I think they rock. I have a possum T-shirt. They don't get rabies, they eat bugs and venomous snakes (?!). What's not to love? The way the babies pile on top of their mom was too cute to resist drawing.

stone 🪨

I was SO ready for this prompt. Because this fall, I discovered my new favorite hobby when I visited Michigan for the first time: rockhounding. Rockhounding just consists of collecting and identifying rocks. I heard about it before the trip up north, but totally thought it sounded lame. Says the girl whose other favorite hobby is birdwatching, I know, I know 😂It was so much fun to climb over thousands of rocks and find the loveliest ones. I was shocked at the massive number of them that are fossils. Of course I had to hunt for the Michigan state rock, the Petoskey stone. It’s a coral fossil! I thiiiink I found one but will have to polish it to find out for sure.

Swipe to see rockhounding adventures! Bonus points if you spot the frog in the video 👀

Some totally rad root vegetables for today 😎

Radishes are so fun to look at and draw, but I can't say I enjoy the taste of them. This one's dedicated to my grandpa, whose favorite late night snack was a sliced radish with butter. He RAVED about the power of butter on a radish. And radishes will always remind me of him! ❤️

Has anyone tried the butter + radish combo? I wanna know!
