Torie Mann Birth Doula

Torie Mann Birth Doula I want each of my clients to come away from their birth experience feeling confident, supported, and seeing the goodness of God woven throughout it.

Holistic care. Honored birthing space. Above all, birth that glorifies God.

Are you walking through pregnancy afraid to give birth? Afraid of the hospital system? Afraid of the unknown? You probably need a doula to walk alongside you for this journey. You need a birth class that will teach you about the system and how to advocate to get the birth you want. You believe God created you to do this, that your body was designed for birth, then learn to give birth according to His design.
Inquire with me TODAY. my schedule is filling up so fast.

I wish I was making this up… the level of unprofessionalism was ridiculous. Treating mom poorly for where her baby decided to be born and the pattern of her labor progress is another level.
Your OB isn’t God and doesn’t know what labor *should* do. Your labor and your baby may not follow the statistical “normal pattern”, but I sure hope you have a doula to navigate those waters with you (and catch your baby as needed!)
Make sure you have a birth team who is there for YOU and not just the stranger in a white jacket who walks in the door ready to get paid to catch a baby.
I’m just the doula, but in moments like this I know my presence means so much more to a family than a double hip squeeze and position suggestions. I am for you, to advocate, to protect, and to support however you may need me.
And it’s genuinely such a JOY to do it.

Please don’t put your hope in me. I’m another tool in your tool belt to support your birth goals, but I am fallible, I am not Jesus and I cannot save you or your birth. Your doula, no matter how wonderful or experienced she is, cannot be where we place our trust. And if that’s your birth plan, to just hire a doula and follow her advice, we need a better birth plan.
I can help you build that birth plan, and I can help you stick to it… but when push comes to shove, this is your birth and I’m not perfect.

Reflecting on scheduling mishaps from this past week I was reminded of my own limits and my own humanity. I can’t do it all. If you hire me you aren’t hiring a business woman who has it all together - you’re hiring a stay at home mom who is just trying to walk in obedience to the Lord as He calls her to serve her family, her home, and the clients He brings to her. But I am far from perfect.
I can’t promise I won’t fail you in some way or another. I can’t even promise my breath will smell good when your in labor - I’m literally just a person - but I can promise that by hiring me you’re hiring a doula who will guide you to the feet of Jesus to lay down your fears. I’ll remind you to cast those anxieties upon the Lord because He hears you and He promises you that His yolk is easy and His burden is light.
If you hire me you’re hiring a broken woman, saved by Jesus, just trying to be faithful each day.

Dear Christian, do you believe the gospel changes everything? Like truly everything? Then you must believe the gospel changes birth.
Often I hear stories of women just gritting their teeth and suffering through the pain of a natural birth. Or on the flip side I hear of women get an epidural without a thought to the Lord’s beautiful design of our bodies and abilities?

But what if we trusted the Lord and surrendered our bodies as a sacrifice to His good and perfect design?
What if we slowed down in pregnancy enough to actually learn about our bodies and that perfect design?
I’m not saying that would result in never using an epidural, you may still choose that option! But I first want you to learn about and consider His design.

Wouldn’t that change something? Doesn’t it change everything and open your eyes anew when you finally understand and can see the goodness of the Lord and His plan, His intentional work, that you once didn’t understand?
We must take it upon ourselves to slow down. Surrender as a living sacrifice. And give these bodies, broken as they are, to Him to use as He chooses.

Your birth won’t be picture perfect. I can almost promise you that. You’ll feel weak. You’ll feel like you can’t go on. But in that very weakness there is biblical truth to carry you through to the end. But do you believe it?

He has not told you to be fruitful and then left you to bear it all alone. He has promised that as we walk with Him His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Do we trust Him?

That last part isn’t only applied to labor, but all of motherhood. Labor is only the beginning of dying to ourselves for the good of our family (or maybe it started in pregnancy for you) but this continues to be a theme you’ll see each and every day in motherhood.

And guess what? I’m praying you will believe that and choose that. I’m praying you choose to selflessly lay yourself down every day for the good of your family and the glory of God.

So, I’ll ask it again… does the gospel truly change everything? And have you ever considered that the Lord cares how your children are born?

Ownership. OBs don’t like this idea because it takes things into your hands and not theirs. But your health, your birth, your preparation and education, etc. is yours. It is YOUR birth is not your doulas birth. YOUR birth choices are not your midwife’s responsibility. Maybe she’s comfortable with you delivering at home at 36 weeks - but are you? Do you know your own risks? — what about induction? Do you actually know what you’re signing up for? You are the parent, this is your responsibility to know these things.
This mindset matters as we look forward in preparation, and as we look back at choices made before… you don’t get to blame your providers for decisions you made. You don’t get to redo your birth, so prepare well and take it seriously. No one can do this for you. Even the best doula can’t save you from yourself and your decisions.

Okay…. Mostly kidding. But for real, some of those may do it 😅 but genuinely, if we’re a good fit we’ll make it work. If you want to talk through options or payment plans, just DM me. We’ll figure it out.
I care way more about supporting the right families in this work than the invoices.

There's a chatGPT trend going around, "Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me!” and I can't complain at all. This is pretty spot on for what ol' chatty would know about me. Lots of recipe calculating, lots of babies and birth, and taking care of moms and babies in various ways.
I sure wish I had this many hands though, especially during that double hip squeeze! Haha

Statistics and numbers are weird as a doula. I don’t do what i do for numbers - i do it for the moms. But when mom has good support, the stats prove better outcomes. C-section rate of 1/3 or 1/10? Which odds would you choose?

Are you a people pleaser? Or afraid to ruffle feathers?
Don’t want to inconvenience someone else so you inconvenience yourself instead? Do you put up with someone else’s mistakes because you don’t want to cause problems or face conflict?

Conflict isnt bad.
Speaking up isn’t bad.
Standing for what you want in labor isn’t bad!

If you can’t do it on a Tuesday, don’t you dare think you’ll be able to in labor.

LEARN to advocate! For yourself and that coffee order. For yourself in labor. And eventually - for your baby who needs your voice to protect them. These aren’t just skills for labor, it’s skills for your whole life.
Save your $7 and speak up next time. Fix that coffee order. Learn to speak and be heard!
when was the last time you corrected something you knew was wrong?
