“43 days in antepartum. 24 days in the NICU. A lifetime of gratitude.” 💙
At just 28 weeks pregnant with twins, Katie was admitted to Norton Women & Children’s with preeclampsia. What followed was a 6-week stay in the antepartum unit and the birth of Caroline and Chandler at 34 weeks—followed by 24 days in the NICU.
While it wasn’t the journey she and her husband expected, the care team became like family. From compassionate nurses and housekeepers who brought comfort and baby gifts, to NICU doctors and nurses who loved their preemies like their own—every moment was met with kindness.
Discharge was bittersweet, but the bonds formed remain strong. Nurses visited the family at home, and NICU staff even attended the babies’ baptism.
They never imagined such a challenging time would lead to lifelong friendships and unforgettable care.

What a night for Zeek! ⚽️ 💜 As our Super Kid with Louisville City FC during Norton Children’s Night, Zeek shined bright.
He kicked off the match with the coin toss, signed autographs like a pro, and got a surprise visit from his care team at the Norton Children’s Neuroscience Institute!
His strength and joy lit up the stadium. We’re so proud to celebrate his journey and the care that helped him get here.
Go Zeek! We’re all rooting for you!

🌼 Please join us in congratulating our recent DAISY Award honoree, Barbara Holmes, from Labor & Delivery at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital.
In the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, Barbara brought compassion, warmth, and humanity to a grieving mother who had just learned her baby no longer had a heartbeat at 18 weeks. From the moment she entered the room with a wheelchair and warm blankets, Barbara anticipated every emotional need—shielding her patient from the painful walk past baby photos and staying by her side with unwavering support.
She didn’t just provide care—she created space for healing. Barbara treated the moment with the tenderness and dignity it deserved. 💙
Thank you, Barbara, for being a true light during life’s darkest moments. You embody the heart of nursing. 👏

Congratulations to our recent BEE award winner, Mansfield Potts, Food & Nutrition! 🐝 🏆 Here is what his nominator had to say:
"Mr. Potts is a true gentleman. He takes time to speak to me as a person not just as his daily task. I’ve noticed Mr. Potts interacting with other patients and staff and his attitude never changes. He is friendly and polite to everyone. It was a pleasure to have him taking care of me. Norton Women's & Children's Hospital is lucky to have him!"
Congratulations and thank you for all of your hard work! 🎉

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Anna Rogers RN! 🌼 🎉 Here is what Anna's nominator had to say:
"This nurse looked me in my eyes and told me 'We are going to help you get well.' I cried. Her spirit gave me constant hope and drive. Anna knew I was afraid and clueless; however always keeping me aware of every level of my care. Always reassuring me I was never a bother. She encouraged me to rest and we had conversations about life, goals, aspirations and dreams. The way she trained and taught those that shadowed her was amazing. So patient and kind.
The care given at this hospital is a direct result of the mission and vision of this administration being carried out by employees like her."
Thank you for all that you do! 🎊

With great sadness we announce that our beloved facility dog, Juno, passed away on Saturday after a cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, there were already complications from the cancer, which made treatment not possible.
Juno just celebrated her 10th birthday and had been a part of the facility dog program for six years, visiting patients and staff primarily at Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Hospital, but was often seen elsewhere throughout Norton Children’s and Norton Healthcare. In her lifetime, she also gave birth to numerous puppies, many of whom became facility and therapy dogs, including Yarie, who sees patients and staff at Norton Children’s Medical Center.
Heather Stohr, manager, Child & Family Life Services, was Juno’s handler and dog mom during her six years of service. Please keep Heather and her family in your thoughts and prayers, as Juno was an important part of their family too.
Juno’s service to Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s was passionately funded by Edie Nixon through the Heel, Dog, Heal program, a part of the Norton Healthcare Foundation and Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation. Over the years, it has grown to include 12 dogs across many facilities. We are grateful to those who graciously support this program and to the handlers who work with the dogs who serve our patients and staff.
Please share your photos and memories of Juno in the comments.

Congratulations to our recent BEE award winner, Dante Malone! 🐝 🏆 Here is what Dante's nominator had to say:
"My 79 year old mom went to the ER after a bad fall and some other symptoms. A CT scan was ordered and Dante showed up to take her to imaging. He was so friendly, positive and sweet with my mom. When he wheeled her back, they were laughing and joking with one another like old friends. They realized they shared a birthday – September 10th, furthering their connection. She didn’t want him to leave and commented that she wished she could take him home with her. His positivity and uplifting words were much needed during a scary time in our lives. God sent him to her that day.
Since then, she has been calling relatives and friends about her hospital visit and Dante is the first thing she talks about. She keeps saying “He is so wonderful! We loved him!”
Norton Healthcare is so so lucky to have such a caring, sweet person on staff!"
Congratulations, Dante and thank you for all you do! 🎉

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Kimberley Jenkins-Milton, RN! 🌼 Kimberley was nominated by a patient, this is what they had to say:
"Being pregnant and struggling with addiction has to be one of the loneliest things I’ve gone through. Especially while being around people who’ve never been through it but, keep telling you “It’s going to be okay. You’ll get through it.” Like how would they know, right?
Well this time around being in the MOST program for the first time, I’ve experienced something completely different; feeling cared for and heard. Which isn’t a normal thing for those of us struggling with addiction. Getting that type of treatment at a dark and low moment, especially from a stranger, means a lot! It not only made me feel gratitude but, also allowed me to begin trusting again.
Kimberley listened to me when I expressed my pain and was on top of my meds. She got me out of my room and took me for a walk when I expressed I was going stir crazy. She brought snacks just as soon as I asked for them and even got me (a very private and personal person) to open up and talk about whatever was on my mind. I felt heard and cared for. One of the most special things she did was going above and beyond to help me celebrate my birthday!
For all these reasons I am nominating nurse Kimberley. She is THE MODEL NURSE! If anyone deserves this award it her! Norton Healthcare is truly blessed to have her on the team, as I was blessed to have her as my nurse!"
Thank you for all that you do, Kimberley! 💙

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Jackie Zepeda, RN! 👏 🌼 Here is some of what Jackie's nominator had to share:
"Jackie is always a great nurse, but she has gone above and beyond for an ICU patient. The patient was Catholic and spoke only Spanish. When she cared for him, he was anxious and very scared to be in the ICU. She kept talking to him, explaining his care, and praying the rosary with him in Spanish.
Jackie stayed after her shift to continue advocating for the patient, and due to weather conditions, she slept at the hospital. When she woke up, before heading home, she stopped by the patient’s room—whom she had grown close to—to say goodbye.
Jackie went above and beyond for this patient and his family during his critical illness. The ICU is lucky to have a nurse like Jackie!"
