As we honor C-section awareness month let’s not forget to these two very solid truths!

1. Love your body, inside and out! Love your body for the things it has done and those that it will do. As moms, we can be especially hard on ourselves postpartum. Raise your hand if you have ever looked at your postpartum body and the reaction was not a smile.
🤚 Me too. It took some serious time before I willingly gave myself grace for my postpartum body and even a bit more time before I found more grace to love that body! No matter what, find that love. Our bodies do amazing things and you are amazing!
2. Birth is not defined by how you brought your baby into this world. C-section or other, you are worthy of your very unique and special story! Own it.
Healing from having a baby is a process. Having a cesarean section is having a major abdominal surgery. Allow your body the time and the care that it needs to heal.

In honor of Cesarean Section Awareness month we want you to first know that you are beautiful, amazing, and truly unique. Loving ourselves postpartum may not always come easy, but it is always necessary. Second we want you to know that there are so many ways to support your body while you heal. Follow us this month for tips, care, and healing postpartum.

Movement means so much in pelvic health- but how you move means even more!
The “lunge” we learned at 10 is vastly different than the lunge we need at 20,30, even 40, 60 or 80!
Contracting the TA is one of the key pieces to supporting your pelvic floor in movement!
Follow these steps with Dr. Julie for a supporting form!

What does your scar say?

It tells a story that is truly unique to you! It is a reminder of strength and love!
It is major abdominal surgery!

Following pregnancy and child birth is the postpartum season! Previously this season was pushed through with grit.
Today we have learned just what the body needs to heal!
☝️ the most important thing you can give your body following a c-section or vaginal birth is REST!!! It needs time to just start healing! The initial healing allows the incision to close.
2️⃣ After your incision has healed and closed (check in with your healthcare team) you can begin skin rolling. This helps break up the deep tissue.
3️⃣ Scar desensitization
This is a gentle
therapeutic technique used to reduce hypersensitivity, pain, or numbness around the incision.
Ask your healthcare team for guidance and proper technique!!
Lastly let’s remember how we move after birth makes a difference! Support your core and pelvic floor as you get out of bed! Contract your transverse, Roll to your side, then sit up!

At one point, once a birth was by C-section that seemed to define all births that followed.
Today, Mamas get to see this differently! Just because you had a C-section does not mean your next birth has to also be a C-section. It also does not mean that because your next birth shows the option of having a VBAC, that you have to do so!
It is so important to make the decision that is best for you and your baby!
Know your options, you and your baby are the two smartest people in the room.

No matter the season you are in, you can always help support your pelvic health with daily choices! One of the truths we love about pelvic health is that it does not have to be hard!
Start with these four daily habits
To support pelvic health.

💦 Drink your water every day! In addition to a hydrated body, healthy water intake also supports the pelvic floor. Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily!
🧗 Keep moving! Movement does not have to come in a marathon, it can come as a simple walk, dance, or even yoga. Engaging the pelvic floor muscles regularly helps these muscles do their job. They should regularly contract and relax.
🥗 Food Intake. Know what you give your body! Sugar is highly inflammatory. Think balance in your diet. Enjoy treats, but balance them with beneficial foods.
🚽 Use a squatty potty or stool! Support your pelvic floor muscles in doing their job. For bowel movements- think knees up above the hips and a relaxed pelvic floor. You should not have to work to get it out!
For voiding- think slightly forward! A steady stream should release from the bladder without a lot of effort.

Preparing for labor has several benefits!
From the mental mindset of connecting to your body and pelvic floor to the physical impact of helping prevent tearing during labor!

The pelvic floor changes so much throughout pregnancy. Having a pelvic floor physical therapist on your team provides a lot of support to your body throughout your pregnancy and into postpartum.

This specific exercise helps the pelvic floor muscles stretch to prepare for baby to make their entrance into the world!

✨Preparing for birth?
✨Healing after a C-section?
✨Recently postpartum?
Whatever season you are in, pelvic floor therapy has a place for you! Reach out with any questions.

As pelvic health professionals, seeing the growth in awareness and treatments for needs like c-sections and pelvic health is one to talk about and celebrate!
Planned or unplanned, c-sections are a major abdominal surgery. In the time that follows, healing requires rest.
From the simplest actions of getting out of bed to returning to the physical activities you love, rebuilding the muscles and strength, with time, is essential.
What we may think are the simplest of actions can seem like the hardest. Hard does not man impassible and is not a reason for "new normals" to exist. Ask for help during and after pregnancy so that you can return to your normal tasks, pain free and successfully, alongside being mama!
