Healthy Eating “Sorry, There's no magic bullet, you got to eat healthy to be healthy. End of story."

Hi, I am a public health student interested and passionate about practicing and promoting a healthy eating lifestyle. A healthy dietary pattern can promote health, aids in weight loss, and thereby reduce the risk of chronic disease. I strongly believe that "When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use, and, when the diet is correct, medicine is of no need." This page's main aim is to share healthy recipes, benefits of weight loss and to promote a healthy eating lifestyle.

Diet, exercise, and sleep are the three pillars of a healthy lifestyle. These three affect each other in innumerable ways. As per CDC, Adults need 7 or more hours of sleep a night and 1 in 3 adults don't get enough sleep. Sleep offers the body and brain time to restore and recover, affecting nearly every tissue of the body. According to Sleep Foundation, without sleep, people tend to overeat and choose unhealthy foods. Sleep deprivation makes the body release more ghrelin and leptin which tells our brain to consume more food. Chronic sleep loss has been linked to having larger waist circumference and an increased risk of obesity. For more information click www.cdc.gov/sleep https://rb.gy/orhido

According to CDC, less than 10% of our daily calories should be from added sugars. Naturally occurring sugars such as those in fruit or milk are not added sugars. Added sugars include brown sugar, maple sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, honey, malt syrup, and molasses.

The Nutrition Facts label on packaged foods was updated in 2016 to reflect updated scientific information. Manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual sales were required to update their labels by January 1, 2020; manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales were required to update their labels by January 1, 2021.

One of the major updates was added sugars in grams and as a percent daily value% (%DV) is now required on the label. The refreshed design and updated information will make it easier for us to make informed food choices that contribute to lifelong healthy eating habits.
