Recently, I was asked to photograph a funeral viewing, service, interment, and repast. Some people don’t understand it and some do. I went into this task and experience, having done some homework and research first; seeing a quote that got me there and through, what I anticipated to be, a difficult 2 days. The quote read, “When we were blinded by grief, you were our eyes” written on “The Funeral Photographer” website. “The Funeral Photographer” is a photographer out of Australia that specializes in funeral and memorial photography. This quote he had written on his site was said to him by a client and it struck me to my core. Going through this experience, it resonated with me and inspired me on so many levels. I never felt quite a calling before but I swear this one is screaming my name. After some time of sitting on my feelings and emotions and delivering this powerful, heartfelt gallery to a grieving mom, I have decided that this will now be a permanent service that I offer. I want to show you the beauty of your goodbyes and see ya laters. The power of how God, or your higher beliefs, work in you and through people, places and things around you. I will be there respectfully and quietly in the shadows, like a fly on the wall or a butterfly in the wind. No one should have to suffer a loss but in times we must, I hope I can bring some light to a dark time.
