Some days I share this message with families and remind them they are doing their best even when times are hard. And some days I need to hear this message myself. The world tells us that we are not enough and we question whether we are caring for our kids the best we can. Now, throw in the extra stress of caring for a child with medical complexities or a child who can’t eat and the emotions can be overwhelming. So today, if find yourself in a place where you’re just trying to hold it together a little bit longer, know that at your feelings are valid and you are doing a great job, even in the hard!

I still remember the feeling of complete terror as I walked into my first feeding evaluation! I had taken a few courses, but the fear of treating without anyone else there to help was overwhelming. How could I be trusted to keep a patient safe if I had never done this before? Fast forward 13 years and I have found myself super passionate about clinician education and providing not just coursework about feeding but mentorship as well! I don’t want any other clinicians to feel the way I did and instead I want to inspire and support clinicians to be confident and know that even if they don’t the answers, they have someone in their corner to reach out to for help.
If you are an SLP or OT and interested in feeding but have limited access to a mentor, I would love to come alongside you. This program includes 10 hours of discussion and group learning, but it also includes 1:1 mentoring which makes it a unique option for those looking for this piece of support as well. It is especially beneficial for those that work in rural healthcare settings or private practice.
Don’t flounder and feel overwhelmed like I did, and instead reach out and find a mentor who can support you exactly where you need it!
