✨ What to Expect at Your First TMJ Session ✨
If you’ve never had TMJ-focused work before, you might be wondering what it’s like, especially if you’re used to traditional or deep tissue massage.
Here’s what to expect:
💆♀️ *A different approach to pressure*
TMJ work is more gentle and targeted than deep tissue. The jaw and surrounding muscles are sensitive, so we focus on precision rather than intensity to avoid flare-ups and create lasting relief.
💆♀️ *Focus areas*
Your session may include work on the:
• Jaw
• Head/Temples
• Around the ears and scalp area
• Neck/Shoulders and base of the skull
💆♀️ *Intraoral work (optional)*
Some techniques may be done inside the mouth using gloves to access deeper jaw muscles. This is always discussed beforehand and completely optional. Typically not done on your first session.
💆♀️ *What it feels like*
You may notice:
• Gentle pressure
• Slow, intentional movements
• A release of tension without soreness
💆♀️ *After your session*
Many clients report:
✨ Less jaw tension
✨ Reduced ear pressure
✨ Improved movement
✨ A calmer, more relaxed feeling
Results can continue to improve over the next 24–48 hours.
If you’re used to deep tissue, this may feel different, but it’s designed to work with your body, not against it.
