✨ What to Expect at Your First TMJ Session ✨

If you’ve never had TMJ-focused work before, you might be wondering what it’s like, especially if you’re used to traditional or deep tissue massage.

Here’s what to expect:

💆‍♀️ *A different approach to pressure*
TMJ work is more gentle and targeted than deep tissue. The jaw and surrounding muscles are sensitive, so we focus on precision rather than intensity to avoid flare-ups and create lasting relief.

💆‍♀️ *Focus areas*
Your session may include work on the:
• Jaw
• Head/Temples
• Around the ears and scalp area
• Neck/Shoulders and base of the skull

💆‍♀️ *Intraoral work (optional)*
Some techniques may be done inside the mouth using gloves to access deeper jaw muscles. This is always discussed beforehand and completely optional. Typically not done on your first session.

💆‍♀️ *What it feels like*
You may notice:
• Gentle pressure
• Slow, intentional movements
• A release of tension without soreness

💆‍♀️ *After your session*
Many clients report:
✨ Less jaw tension
✨ Reduced ear pressure
✨ Improved movement
✨ A calmer, more relaxed feeling

Results can continue to improve over the next 24–48 hours.

If you’re used to deep tissue, this may feel different, but it’s designed to work with your body, not against it.

Have questions before booking? Feel free to message me, I’m happy to help 💛

✨ Why TMJ Massage Isn’t Deep Tissue ✨

One of the most common things I hear is:
“Can you use deeper pressure on my jaw?”

I totally get it, many people are used to deep tissue massage for tension relief. But when it comes to TMJ (jaw pain, tightness, ear pressure, clicking), more pressure is not always better.

The muscles of the jaw are smaller, more sensitive, and closely connected to nerves that can easily become irritated. Using too much pressure can actually cause flare-ups, increased tension, or even more discomfort later on.

While the neck can sometimes tolerate deeper work, when it’s connected to TMJ-related tension, a more targeted and gentle approach is often more effective for both the jaw and the neck.

Instead, TMJ work focuses on:
✔️ Gentle, targeted techniques on the jaw, temples & neck
✔️ Myofascial release
✔️ Calming the nervous system
✔️ Reducing pressure (not forcing it)

It may feel different than what you’re used to, but the goal is longer-lasting relief without aggravating the area.

Many clients notice things like:
✨ Less jaw tension
✨ Reduced ear pressure
✨ Easier movement
✨ A more relaxed feeling overall

If you’re used to deep tissue, this might feel lighter, but it’s intentional and effective.

Your jaw doesn’t need to be “worked harder” it needs to be worked smarter 💆‍♀️

You don’t think you need a massage…
because you’re used to feeling like this.

• rubbing your temples by 2pm
• stretching your neck all day at your desk
• clenching your jaw without realizing it
• constant tight shoulders that never relax

That’s not “normal.”
That’s muscle tension your body has adapted to.

My sessions focus on the head, face, neck, and shoulders — where stress, TMJ tension, headaches, and posture pain actually live.

Most of my clients say the same thing after their first visit:
“I didn’t realize how tight I was until it was gone.”

If this sounds like you, message me RELIEF and I’ll send you my next openings.

Starting a massage practice has been exciting, but also a little scary if I’m being honest, even after being a licensed massage therapist for 20 years.

I decided to focus my work on **TMJ, jaw tension, and headaches** because I know how much these issues can affect daily life. I struggled with these issues myself.

If you or someone you know struggles with jaw pain, clenching, or headaches that often stem from the jaw muscles, I’d love to help.

And if nothing else, I’d truly appreciate you **sharing this post** so more people know I specialize in this type of work.

If you’re a healthcare or wellness provider and know anyone struggling with jaw tension or headaches, I’d be so grateful if you passed my info along.

Building a small business takes time, and every bit of support means a lot.

People often ask me why I do this work.

The truth is, I didn’t choose this, it chose me.

My focus on TMJ, neck tension, and headaches grew out of my own journey learning about these issues and how much they can affect daily life.

I’ve spent years learning about the connection between the jaw, neck, and nervous system because it’s something I’ve dealt with myself. That journey is what led me to focus my work on helping others who struggle with similar tension patterns.

I know firsthand how frustrating chronic jaw tightness, neck pain, shoulder pain and headaches can be. My goal is to provide focused, therapeutic work to help relieve those patterns and support long-term relief.

If this sounds familiar to you, I’d love to help. DM me for questions or my availability.

😬 Do you wake up with jaw tension or headaches?

Many people don’t realize their TMJ (jaw joint) can be the root cause of neck pain, tightness, and even migraines.

3 common signs your jaw may be contributing:
• Morning headaches
• Clicking or popping when chewing
• Constant neck/upper shoulder tension

I specialize in TMJ & headache relief sessions.

I have a few openings this week, DM me for the booking link.

Did you know your jaw and neck are directly connected?

The muscles that control your jaw also attach into your neck and base of your skull. When you clench or grind, those muscles stay overworked, which can lead to:

• Jaw pain
• Neck tightness
• Headaches
• Ear pressure
• Facial tension

TMJ-focused massage is not just relaxation. It’s targeted work designed to reduce the tension patterns contributing to pain.

If you’re dealing with jaw or neck tension that won’t go away, I’d love to help.

Book online or send me a message to learn more.
