Type 2 diabetes cases globally are surging.

The risk for diabetes is increased with high consumption of ultra-processed foods, lack of physical activity, high uric acid levels and consumption of sugar itself.

What’s more, diabetes is a major risk factor for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Ultimately, it’s up to us to make choices that support metabolic health and brain health every single day.

Since our first load in late January, LHS has recycled over 250 lbs. of paper and a few pounds of cardboard.

Recycling paper has numerous environmental benefits. Let’s delve into the advantages of recycling 250 pounds of paper:

1. Conserve Natural Resources: Recycling paper helps preserve our forests. By recycling 250 pounds of paper, we saved approximately 2.125 trees from being cut down.

2. Energy Savings: Recycling paper significantly reduces energy consumption. Recycling 250 pounds of paper can save up to 1,025 kilowatts-hours of electrucity—enough to power the average U.S. home for 35 days, which is more than a month.

3. Water Conservation: Recycling 250 pounds of paper saves approximately 1,770 liters of water.

4. Landfill Space: By recycling, we free up valuable landfill space. Recycling 250 pounds of paper prevents the need for 11.14 cubic feet of landfill space.

5. Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Recycling 250 pounds of paper reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 250 metric pounds of carbon equivalent (MTCE).

In summary, recycling paper not only benefits the environment but also contributes to a more sustainable future. 🌿🌎♻️

(Every two weeks, scrap paper gets collected from most of LHS's classrooms. This paper is later taken to Green Guy Recycling for recycling.)

The research team at the Physicians Committee examined the evidence related to diet and asthma and found that certain foods-including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods, can be beneficial.

In contrast, others, such as dairy products and foods high in saturated fat, can be harmful.
