I never guessed that the store would remain empty for so long! The building is for still up for rent and we have a Craigslist ad to sell the store shelving.

We have made the difficult decision to sell the business. The store will close on January 21, 2014. Michael will be working right up the street at Walgreens in the near future.

Lynchburg lost a native son, loving husband and father, and career Pharmacist with the death of Thomas James Robertson on January 25, 2013.
Tom was born November 3, 1927 in Lynchburg to Floyd Archer Robertson and Lucy Jackson Robertson. He was a life-long member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during the late stages of WWII and again as a Physician’s Assistant (Pharmacist) during the Korean War. He briefly attended Hampden-Sydney College and Lynchburg College and then transferred to the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) where he received his Pharmacy degree in 1952. Tom met the love of his life there, nursing student Ann Meador, and they were married October 25, 1952 in Victoria, VA.
Tom came back to Lynchburg and joined his father’s growing drug store business. He ran Fort Hill Pharmacy for many years and then took over at Robertson Drug Company where he completed his forty-plus years as a Pharmacist. Tom was a member of the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association. At one time, Tom and his brother Floyd ran a network of five drug stores (Allied Pharmacies) in the greater Lynchburg area. Tom officially retired in 1997.
An avid sports fan, Tom rooted for the University of Virginia Cavaliers and the Washington Redskins his entire life. Tom was a devoted golfer and if being a Redskins and UVa fan didn’t hone his sense of humor, his golf game certainly did. Anyone who ever played golf with Tom was likely never to forget it, because the round surely included much laughter.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Floyd Archer Robertson, Jr. and his sister, Sally Mildred Robertson Vaughan.
Tom is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Ann Lee Meador Robertson, and their five children and ten grandchildren: Michael (Judy) Robertson and sons, David, Jacob and Matthew of Lynchburg; Janet (Tom) Murphy of Edgewood, Texas; Jeffrey (Carrie) Robertson and daughters, Margaret and Sara of DeBary, Florida; Scott (Carol Dee) Robertson and children, Mary Ann, Jack and Thomas also of Lynchburg; and Martha (Charlie) Donato and children, Sam and Lucy of Richmond, VA. Also surviving is his sister, Lucy “Pete” (Hank) Norton of Deltaville, VA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. David M. Wodicka and his staff; the Centra Health Hospice staff, led by Alice Powell, RN; and the professionals at Generation Solutions. A special, heart-felt thank you goes out to Ms. Tanya Flood, who provided exceptional care for Ann and Tom over the past seven months.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 27 at Fort Hill UMC. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the church on Monday, January 28, conducted by Rev. Philip Waltz and Rev. Janet M. Hawkins. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Whitten Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the building fund at Fort Hill UMC or to the Research Department at the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center.
