Most patients who have endometriosis will also have IBS, however, many are not treated for both.

Kimchi is great, but this headline is misleading. The study tested an isolated bacterial strain in mice, not kimchi in humans. Science is promising, but currently not proven.

I’ll sing for a colorectal cancer if it gets people’s attention!

Today is Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day. 💙

Lynch syndrome follows an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. That means if one parent carries the mutation each child has a 50% chance of inheriting it. It affects men and women equally. Most don’t even know they have it. 5-10% of colorectal cancers are caused by hereditary cancer syndromes.

Personalized surveillance for these cancers are imperative depending on which variant you have.

Chemoprophylaxis options also exist for Lynch syndrome carriers . This is another important conversation to have with a provider who specializes in hereditary GI cancer syndromes.

Genetic counseling before and after testing is essential. A diagnosis isn’t just about you. It’s about your entire family tree.

If this resonates…seek out a provider who specializes specifically in hereditary GI cancers and genetic risk. This is a nuanced space that deserves specialized care.
It’s something I love to do every day. 💙

Save this and share it with someone who needs it. 🧬

As a GI Nurse Practitioner I’ve watched younger and younger patients get a colorectal cancer diagnosis. It’s not rare anymore.

Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in adults under 50.

Enough.

There is no such thing as too young. As clinicians we have to do better. Better screening, access to care, understanding risk.

Enough.

💙 Join the movement. Be the energy that powers a cure.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and yet it remains one of the most deadly.

This March, GI creators are coming together to share what this disease looks like from the inside in our practices, in our communities, and how it even impacts our own patients.

Early screening saves lives. Share this. Get checked. Don’t wait. Talk to your provider today.

Your bowel prep matters more than you think.

A poor prep doesn’t just mean a repeat procedure…it could mean missing the lesions that matter most, including flat serrated adenomas that are difficult to detect even under perfect conditions.

A 2025 NIH study of over 10,000 CRC cases found that for every additional 300 milligrams of calcium per day, risk dropped 8 to 10 percent. Multiple large studies across different populations show the same thing.

Vitamin D is also important because it helps absorb calcium in the GI tract.

Here’s something most people don’t know: colonoscopies don’t just find cancer…they can actually prevent it.

Polyps get removed before they ever become a problem.

More so, early detection is key!

We have better survival rates the earlier we catch it!
