Alright class! Today we’re going to learn about the ABC’s of hangover recovery đŸ€“âœïž

Amino Acids are the most basic building blocks of healthy muscle tissue! Amino acids found in our recovery blend can help your body maintain muscle mass while simultaneously repairing damaged tissue.

B Vitamins are needed to produce new blood cells. The B complex found in our recovery blend can increase your red blood cell (RBC) count, and as a result, boost your energy!

C Vitamins are used to maintain healthy red blood cells, cartilage, muscle, and bones! Ascorbic acid is said to act as an antioxidant to protect tissue cells against free radical damage done by ethanol. Vitamin C plays a vital role in your body’s healing process!

Let’s work our way back through the alphabet of vitamins!
Vitamin C, AKA ascorbic acid, is a necessary component for the growth, development and repair of body tissues. It is involved in many bodily functions, including the formation of collagen, absorption of iron, efficient functioning of the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.

Symptoms of Vitamin C deficiency include:
- Fatigue
- Irritability
- Lethargic muscles

Vitamin C has many hidden benefits
* May reduce risk of chronic disease.
* May help manage high blood pressure.
* May lower risk of heart disease.
* Helps prevent iron deficiency.
* Boosts immunity.
* Protects memory and thinking as you age.

You can add vitamin C to your daily diet by consuming food rich in Vitamin C. Citrus (oranges, kiwi, lemon, grapefruit), bell peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower), and white potatoes are all great sources of Vitamin C!

Let’s talk about Vitamin D! 🍳
Vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins our body needs to maintain several critical functions! The vitamin’s most vital roles include regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus and facilitating normal immune function.

Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency include:
* Fatigue.
* Bone pain.
* Muscle weakness, muscle aches, or muscle cramps.
* Mood changes, like depression.

You can add Vitamin D to your daily diet by consuming more fatty fish, like tuna and salmon. Foods fortified with vitamin D, like some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals, beef liver, cheese, and egg yolks.

We are here to help you along the way! Book your Mackinac Wellness appointment for a boost of Vitamin D to kickstart your preventative wellness journey! đŸ„ł

Let’s address the elephant in the room🐘

As Northern Michigan’s first and only IV Vitamin drip service, we totally understand any hesitation you may have towards getting an IV vitamin drip, so let’s talk about the history of IV drip therapy and how it has revolutionized our understanding of micro-nutrition!

The history of IV Therapy: 💧
The concept of delivering fluids intravenously was developed in the late 1800s! (Fun fact: there is a tale of a man who first used his quill and a pig’s bladder to create the first IV, but we’ll spare you that story). The urgency to develop a system that could deliver fluids intravenously came from the late Dr. Thomas Latta’s desperate attempt to battle a cholera epidemic that was plaguing his community in Britain. The idea was simple—flushing the body with a saline solution would be the most efficient way to flush out a waterborne disease. It was a success! Quickly thereafter, saline solution delivered through an IV became common practice to prevent and treat dehydration in hospital patients.

In 1954, Dr. John Meyers took hydration therapy one step further by introducing vitamin infusion. After noticing nutritional deficiencies in his patients, he realized that they weren’t getting enough of their essential vitamins and nutrients through diet alone. Using this knowledge, Dr. Meyers patented what we know today as the “Meyers Cocktail”—a solution infused with micronutrients that after often missed in your daily diet. B vitamins, calcium gluconate, selenium, and vitamin C to name a few.

Initially, these injections were only used to treat those suffering chronic illnesses such as asthma, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, and heart disease, but with further research medical professionals recognized that the benefits could help improve the overall health and wellness of the general population. IV therapy has became increasingly popular among celebrities since the 1970s and remained a secret ever since!

Today we administer the Meyers Cocktail to just about anyone (18+) to promote community health and wellness. Call or book online today at mackinacwellness.com to feel the benefits of a Meyers Cocktail for yourself!
