Please join us in congratulating Nurse Savanna Cole Kilpatrick from our Progressive Care Unit on winning a MADI (Making a Difference) Award! 👏

Savanna is known for always going above and beyond for patients as well as her fellow nurses. A colleague shared how Savanna took the time to gently de-tangle a patient’s hair after an EEG while the rest of the team was busy. That simple but meaningful act made a lasting impact on both the patient and the care team, and perfectly reflects Savanna’s compassion, teamwork, and genuine commitment to patient well-being. 💚

We are so thankful for caregivers like Savanna who are always willing to lend a helping hand and truly make a difference. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor! 🌟

Patient safety is our top priority, and we’re blessed to have a campus full of employees like Vein Center Nurse Kimberly Renfroe who take that mission to heart. ❤️

While cross-referencing a patient’s written medication list with his electronic medical record, Kimberly noticed a critical discrepancy: the patient was taking a potassium-wasting medication but was not taking a potassium supplement.💊

Even though a prescription was in the system, the patient was unaware of it and had never had it filled.

Kimberly immediately counseled the patient on the risks of taking the medication without a supplement, provided a detailed written note explaining the situation, and recommended an urgent follow-up with his physician. ✨

This “Great Catch” is a perfect example of what it means to be a High Reliability Organization (HRO). Kimberly’s attention to detail and proactive care prevented a potential medical issue before it could happen, and we are honored to present her with our HRO Hero Award! 🏆

🩺 We’re rolling out a vital new service designed to improve outcomes for the very sickest patients.

Hitting the streets today, the Madison Hospital Acute Care Transport ambulance is available to quickly shuttle critically ill patients from our Emergency Department to Huntsville Hospital if they need specialized services not offered locally. 🚑

It’s basically an Intensive Care Unit on wheels, staffed by paramedics, EMTs and nurses with years of critical care experience.

We envision using it to transport heart attack patients who require urgent interventions in the Cath Lab, stroke patients needing interventional radiology, and those who come to our ER with traumatic brain bleeds. ❤️‍🩹 🧠 🚨

We’ve nicknamed our new ambulance the “MAC 1” in honor of Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon, who also serves on our volunteer hospital board. He and his fellow county commissioners helped secure grant funding to pay for the ambulance through their American Rescue Plan Act funding.

We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many philanthropic partners whose generous donations helped fund the specialized medical equipment aboard the MAC 1, including Alpha Foundation, Robins & Morton and Bentley Buick GMC.

And here’s an interesting fact: our custom-made ambulance was built right here in Madison by the talented folks at Excellance, Inc.

Chairman McCutcheon said he could have used a dedicated acute care transport ambulance back in 2014, when a visit to our ER revealed heart issues that required a transfer to Huntsville Hospital for emergency bypass surgery.

“To see this come full circle today is very, very special,” he said. “It will help so many.” 💚 🙌

Being a Highly Reliable Organization (HRO) means staying hyper-vigilant to ensure every patient receives the safest care possible. 👀

Our Mother/Baby team took that mission to heart by becoming our latest Fall Champions, totally eliminating preventable patient falls between the 2nd and 3rd quarters. 📉

We are so proud to present the HRO Hero Award to the entire department for their excellence in maternity care. 🏆

Please join us in the comments by thanking them for keeping our newest parents and tiny patients safe! 👏🎉

As a scrub assistant in our Labor & Delivery Unit, Jeisha Heard is the definition of a team player. Whether it’s coming in on her off-hours or training new staff, she always puts our patients and her colleagues first. ❤️

Recently, Jeisha went above and beyond the call of duty. She volunteered to work a morning C-section delivery to help the day shift — even though she was already scheduled to work that same night! Just as she was preparing to head home to rest, an emergency arose. Without a second of hesitation, Jeisha ran back to the OR to assist.🏃💨

Jeisha’s dedication and selflessness make Madison Hospital a better place for everyone, are we are proud to recognize her as our January Employee of the Month! 🏆👏
