Our facilitated milk-sharing organization is distinctly different from a milk bank. With formal milk banks, milk from several donors is pooled together and pasteurized. Banked donor milk is usually intended for medically-fragile babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units/NICUs. These babies’ nutrition is very carefully monitored for caloric and macronutrient intake. This is why there’s a cost to purchase banked milk over-the-counter. With MADMA, the donor milk is not pasteurized (home pasteurization instructions are available), and the donor milk is free.

Happy New Year greetings to you! I am filled with so much gratitude reflecting on this last year. On January 1, 2024 I saw my first patient at Tallgrass and it was clear from that first day that I could actually practice medicine the way I envisioned when I applied for medical school. To truly be a healer, to give time to relationships and the unfolding nature of change, I needed to escape the confines of the system and regulate my nervous system in order to be present to my patients to regulate theirs. Tallgrass was born! I cry tears of gratitude reflecting on our first revolution around the sun.
The last patient I saw in 2024 texted me after their treatment: “My smile is almost completely balanced for the first time in my life! Yay for improved facial symmetry!” I wish each and every one of you radiant joy that true balance allows.

My wife and I told our 6 year old this morning about the school shooting a couple miles from our house, so we were the first ones he heard the news from. He had a lot of smart questions, like why did her parents let her take a gun to school? and how did she accidentally shoot herself? Heartbreaking. We cried and told him we will always do our best to keep him and his brother and all kids safe and he can always ask us anything.
We recommend your kiddos have age appropriate information about traumatic events, not from the news or YouTube or social media etc, with loving support and space for open ended questions. You know your kiddo best and are the expert in supporting them through this. Even if you weren't the one to share the devastating news with your kiddo this week, asking if they heard about it and if they have any questions about it can be a way to gently offer support and clear up any confusions they might have from playground conversations.
