Your eyes do more than help you see, they help you live, work, drive, connect, and experience the world. Yet, millions of people skip routine eye exams, even when early signs of disease are already present.

Protecting your vision is protecting your quality of life. Healthy Vision Month is a timely reminder to make eye health a priority, not an afterthought.

What You Should Know:
• Common eye conditions like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cataracts often begin without symptoms.
• A comprehensive dilated eye exam can detect issues before vision is lost.
• People with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease are at higher risk and should screen regularly.
• Kids and teens benefit from annual vision checks to support learning and development.

Simple steps make a big difference:
• Wear UV-protective sunglasses
• Follow the 20-20-20 rule for screen time (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds)
• Eat vision friendly foods, like leafy greens, fish, and orange-colored fruits and vegetables.
• Don’t ignore blurry vision, eye strain, or discomfort.

Your vision is precious, and often, it’s preventable care that preserves it. This month let’s make clear vision a shared goal, for ourselves, our patients, and our future.

Most parents focus on diapers, feeding schedules, and sleep, but there is one decision that could impact an individual’s health for a lifetime: cord blood banking.

Cord blood, the blood remaining in your baby’s umbilical cord and placenta after birth is rich in life saving stem cells used to treat over eighty serious conditions, including:

• Leukemia and other blood cancers
• Sickle cell anemia
• Immune and metabolic disorders

Why it matters:
• Cord blood collection is safe, painless and does not interfere with delivery.
• Families can choose to bank it privately for personal use or donate it to public banks to help others in need.
• These stem cells can offer hope when other treatment options fall short.

If you are an expecting parent, ask your provider about options before delivery. Understanding the benefits of cord blood could be one of the most important conversations you have during your birth plan process.

Every face tells a story, and for thousands of children born each year with a cleft lip, cleft palate, or craniofacial conditions, that story begins with strength, resilience, and expert care.

Behind every diagnosis is not just a patient, but a family, care team, and a community ready to walk the journey together.

• Cleft and craniofacial conditions affect 1 in 700 babies.
• These conditions may involve the bones and soft tissues of the head and face, and can impact breathing, feeding, speech, and hearing.
• Multidisciplinary care-involving surgeons, speech, and hearing.

Beyond the surgeries and therapies, it is about helping children thrive with confidence, dignity, and the support they deserve.

This month we are shining a light on awareness, prevention, and the power of early care. We honor families, care providers, and brave children whose stories remind us:

Every face is worth celebrating. Every smile is worth protecting.

Hemochromatosis is often called the “most common disease you’ve ever heard of”. It affects over 1 million Americans, yet many go undiagnosed until serious complications arise.

Hemochromatosis is a genetic condition that causes the body to absorb and store too much iron. Over time, excess iron can build up in organs, especially in the liver, heart, pancreas leading to:
• Fatigue and joint pain
• Diabetes
• Liver Disease
• Heart Complication

Hemochromatosis is manageable when caught early:

• A simple blood test can check iron levels
• Treatment often involves regular blood removal (phlebotomy) to reduce iron stores
• Ongoing monitoring helps prevent organ damage and improve quality of life

Many people live for years with vague symptoms like tiredness or joint stiffness, unaware that their iron levels are silently rising. If you have a family history of hemochromatosis or related conditions, ask your provider about screening.

This July, we stand with the patients and advocates to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote testing. Because knowing your iron levels could change everything.

July is B Strep Awareness Month. Group B Streptococcus (BGS) is a type of bacteria that many healthy adults carry without symptoms, but for newborns, it can be life-threatening.

Awareness and early action are key to protecting the most vulnerable among us.

• About 1 in 4 pregnant women carry GBS bacteria.
• Without preventative care, GBS can be passed to babies during childbirth, causing serious infections such as sepsis, pneumonia, or meningitis.
• Routine prenatal screening and timely antibiotics during labor can reduce the risk by up to 90%.
Essential Steps for Expecting Parents:
• Talk to your provider about GBS screening between 35-37 weeks of pregnancy.
• If you test positive, follow all recommendations for antibiotic treatment during delivery.
• Be aware of early warning signs of infection in newborns, such as fever, difficulty feeding, lethargy and seek care right away if you are concerned.

This July, we stand with families, clinicians, and advocates working to make GBS information accessible to everyone, because knowledge and prevention saves lives.

When most people hear “arthritis”, they think of older adults. But arthritis affects nearly 300,000 children in the U.S. alone, impacting their ability to move, play and simply be kids.

What is Juvenile Arthritis?
Juvenile arthritis is not just a condition but an umbrella term that describes several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that target children under 16.

Symptoms include:
• Persistent join swelling, pain, or stiffness
• Fatigue and fever
• Difficulty with daily activities

Early detection is critical. The right treatment-whether medication, physical therapy, or lifestyle support can help prevent joint damage and protect a child’s future mobility.

If you are a parent, caregiver, or educator, trust your instincts. If something does not look or feel right, ask questions. Children may not always have the words to describe their pain.

Today, we honor the resilience of young patients and their families-and the dedicated care teams helping them thrive.

As we gather to celebrate freedom, community and tradition, all of us at Trilogy Population Health wish you a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

While you enjoy time with family and friends, here are a few gentle reminders to help keep the holiday joyful and healthy.

Firework Safety: If you use them at home, follow all instructions and keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby.

Heat Protection: Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles-even for a minute.

Food Safety: Keep perishable foods chilled until serving, wash hands often and cook meats to safe temperatures.

Mindful Celebrations: Loud noises and large crowds can be overwhelming for children, older adults and those with PTSD. Create quiet spaces and check in on loved ones who may need extra support.

From our team to yours, have a happy, healthy, and safe Fourth of July.

July brings warm days, long evenings, and more time spent outdoors. It also brings unique health considerations that deserve attention:

Heat Safety: Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and check in on older adults or neighbors during extreme temperatures.

Sun Protection: Daily sunscreen and UV blocking sunglasses protect your skin and eyes from lasting damage.

Summer Wellness Visits: Midyear is an ideal time to schedule preventative care, annual check-ups, screenings and immunizations.

Mental Health Check Ins: While summer can feel bright and carefree, it also brings stress and holiness. Reach out to someone if you need support, you are never alone.

This month, and every month, we are here to walk alongside you with compassionate care, trusted guidance and innovative solutions designed to help you thrive.

Sure, sunglasses make a fashion statement, but more importantly, they protect something priceless-your vision.

At Trilogy Population Health, we are all about prevention with purpose. And UV protection isn’t just for the beach-your eyes are vulnerable to sun damage every single day.

-Prolonged UV exposure can increase the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and even eye cancer.
-Not all sunglasses are created equal-look for lenses that block 100% UVA and UVB rays.
-Kids’ eyes are especially sensitive, so do forget shades for the little ones too.

Protecting your sight is a simple habit with lifelong impact. So today, we are not just celebrating a summer accessory-we are celebrating a daily decision to prioritize your health.
