My health and wellness program is not about teaching men to be vulnerable or getting men to share more. It is about men winning. Because winning requires teamwork and coaches and experts, and winning is not weak.

Winning at what exactly? That is up to you-but in my view, first and foremost, you need to be healthy in order to win, so my practice is about starting there.

Real growth takes intention, focus, and consistency.

Itโ€™s about mastering the habits, mindset, and recovery that create lasting performance โ€” not chasing quick fixes.

It's Hard To Be A Man

Health and wellness coaching is not about teaching men to be vulnerable or getting men to share more. It is about men winning. Because winning requires teamwork and coaches and experts, and winning is not weak. Winning at what exactly? That is up to you-but in my view, first and foremost, you need to be healthy in order to win, so my practice is about starting there.

I choose to work in men's health because there are limited resources out there for men who want to proactively take charge of their own health. A holistic approach integrates lifestyle and prevention in a science based and comprehensive way. Sure there are books for men on fitness and on specific conditions. But health and wellness coaching is for winning at whatever matters most to you-not just building muscles or reacting to disease. It's about what tools you should have in your toolbox beyond simply pharmaceuticals. Because the fact is that when you are healthy, you can win.

In order to win, you need to change your behavior as much as you need information. I help you with both. Working with me you'll understand how much control you actually have over your own health, and what the next best steps are for you to take. With my nursing background I can guide what questions to ask your own healthcare practitioner, because I want to support that relationship, not replace it. Look at me as part of your team, the support you need to stay healthy and win.

What Do You Want Your Health For?

I don't start by asking what health problems you have or recommend tips for wellness. I start with "What do you want your health for?" and then craft a plan.

We start with your personnel goals rather than merely generalized health recommendations because it is easier to make lifestyle changes that will help specifically with whatever goals matter most to you. After all, health is the most significant influence on whether or not you are positioned to achieve those goals, such as performance at work, in bed, or in the boardroom. This approach motivates people to actually make the behavior changes-because it is about helping to reach goals, to win at what matters most, rather than simply not being sick.

Examples of specific goals that optimizing your health can achieve include being more energetic, being more "on" at work, being more sexually confident, looking better, or being a better father-so why not focus on such goals rather than a general concept of health solely for health's sake? It's much more motivating.

The Bottom Line

Optimizing your health is the most important factor in reaching your goals, and you have many ways to do this besides medications. The best approach is holistic and proactive: identifying what is getting in the way of staying healthy, and what you can do about it.

Study authors were particularly alarmed that younger participants failed to identify meat as a processed food, considering its tendency to raise risks for diabetes, colorectal cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

Study participants also didnโ€™t seem to recognize that plant-based foods, even breakfast cereals considered ultraprocessed, can reduce risks for these conditions, according to lead study author Neal Barnard, MD.

Neal Barnard, MD believes doctors can help their patients make better dietary choices if they explain: โ€œWhen it comes to processed foods, low-fat plant-derived foods are typically healthy and animal-derived foods are typically unhealthyโ€

For example, a multicomponent lifestyle intervention including healthy diet, physical activity and stress management may improve multiple and interconnected aspects of health including cardiovascular (e.g. blood pressure), metabolic (e.g. glucose metabolism) and musculoskeletal function (e.g. muscle strength).
