Most kids don’t need more discipline.
They need help regulating their nervous systems.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of working with students, educators, and parents across our partner schools- from time with the incredible students at Benway School to connecting with families through an Englewood Cliffs PTA workshop.

We’re seeing real momentum as more schools begin embracing a powerful shift:

Regulation before learning.
Connection before a correction.

Even more exciting – grants are being approved to support monthly SEL visits next school year, helping this work become part of the culture of the schools we partner with!

Grateful for the educators, administrators, and families helping bring this vision to life. 🩵

Random Acts of Kindness Week hits differently when you return to the same schools year after year. 🤍

There is something so special about knowing the students, reconnecting with the teachers, and watching how these children grow every year. Ongoing partnerships allow this work to go deeper… it’s not just a visit, it’s a relationship.

This year’s theme: Be kind to yourself first.

When we take care of our minds and bodies- through breath, mindful movement, positive self-talk, and nervous system resets- it becomes so much easier to be kind to others.

✨Feel Good ➡️ Do Good.✨

Students and teachers received their own “menus” of simple strategies to use in school or at home- turning our wellness day into an ongoing SEL toolbox instead of a one and done experience. Because resilience is built through repetition, practice, and connection.

So grateful to partner with schools who value proactive mental and emotional wellness. We Rise together. 💛

When a student is dysregulated, learning can’t happen.

so often what we see as “behavior” is really a nervous system asking for support.

this 90-second regulation reset is one of my go to tools because it’s simple, non-disruptive, and realistic for busy classrooms.

No prep.
No supplies.
Just support.

Save this for later or share it within an educator who could use it 🤍

Coregulation in action while I was teaching in one of my beloved special needs schools. 🤍
This moment wasn’t taught- it was felt. ✨

Sometimes the lesson is safety.
Sometimes it’s presence.
Our calm nervous systems soothe theirs-
This is the power of coregulation. 🫶

And I will happily take all of these sweet hugs! 🥰

We’re so excited to officially share our partnership with Benway School in Wayne, NJ. 💛

Benway’s deep commitment to social-emotional learning and a whole-child approach- supporting students academically, emotionally, and socially while preparing them for a successful transition into adulthood- is beautifully aligned with our beliefs, practices, and philosophies. Their focus on connection, regulation, and life skills creates the perfect foundation for meaningful SEL work.

Our mindfulness and SEL strategies have truly fit seamlessly into their school community, and we are so grateful for the trust and collaboration. We can’t wait to see the continued impact this partnership will have on their students and their growth!

Feeling incredibly grateful- and so inspired- by this work together. ✨

We’re so excited to begin our partnership with Saddle River Day School ✨

Last week’s kickoff was filled with connection, movement, and simple regulation tools to support student readiness and well-being.

Grateful to work alongside schools that prioritize and are so receptive to this work!
More to come! 💛

There is a quiet and safe place inside of you that you can come home to despite of all the noise and chaos around you.

You can’t control what happens any more than the next person can, but you can control how you respond.

And isn’t that beautiful. ♥️

When children are taught these things, that’s when the world changes. 💫

🌿 Small Moments, Big Impact

On Monday, I had the opportunity to spend some time in an upper elementary classroom working with a group of academic support students – and they were amazing! So open, so engaged, and so receptive to every tool we explored for finding calm, focus, and confidence within themselves.

At the end of one of the sessions, the teacher came up to me and said, “ I hope I didn’t seem rude – I was taking notes on everything you were teaching. I kept thinking how much my own child at home needs this and could really benefit from all of this.” I had assumed she was catching up on work- which wouldn’t have offended me in the least of course- but I was floored, in the best way possible.

Moments like that may seem small, but they’re everything to me. It’s the reminder that this work doesn’t just ripple through classrooms – it flows into homes, families, and hearts.

This is why I do what I do.
Helping kids and the adults who care for them find calm, connection, and resilience – one mindful moment at a time. 🌿✨

Teachers are already doing so much. ❤️

That’s why at Rise Yoga and Mindfulness, we don’t add two teachers’ plates – we build on what’s already there in place.

We blend Responsive Classroom practices and mindfulness 🌿- using morning meetings, transitions, and daily routines as chances for calm, connection, and social-emotional growth.

As a former classroom teacher of many years, trained in Responsive Classroom, I’ve seen how beautifully it pairs with mindfulness – and for schools not yet using it, I love helping them infuse its core principles alongside mindful movement, breath, work, and emotional regulation strategies.

It’s not a new program.
It’s a more mindful way to do what’s already working. ✨

Together, we’re building, calm, connected, resilient classrooms – one breath and one relationship at a time. 💛

If your school or district is seeking a way to bring authentic SEL and mindfulness into the daily rhythm of the classroom – without overwhelming teachers – Rise Yoga and Mindfulness can help.

🌿 Reflections from My Heart: The Gift of Teaching Mindfulness to Students with Special Needs 🌿

A few years ago- four I believe now- I took a leap that has profoundly changed me both personally and professionally. I decided to bring yoga and mindfulness to children with special needs in one of our first partner schools.

At the time, I wasn’t entirely sure how it would look or be received. I just knew, deep in my heart, that every child deserves the tools to help them feel calm, connected and safe in their own body and mind.

From that first day, I was completely moved. These students have become one of my favorite groups to work with. Their joy, their honesty, their energy, their capacity to love and connect- often without words- are lessons in mindfulness in and of themselves. They have given me far more than I could ever give them. 🩵

It has truly been my privilege and gift to be welcomed in their space- to learn with the what helps regulate their nervous systems, what soothes their impulsive control, and what allows them to find moments of peace in their day. Seeing their smiles, their excitement, their engagement, feeling a spontaneous hug or a student jumping in my lap mid-lesson- these moments are everything. They remind me why I do this work.

Over time, what began as a single program experience has grown. We’ve since expanded this program to other schools for children who are specially abled, and more recently, to NJ ECC, where we work with adults who are predominantly autistic. Each experience continues to teach me more about patience, presence, compassion, and the profound simplicity of connection.

In our sessions, we breathe.
We move mindfully.
We follow along to books together.
We sing!
We sway and find a calming rhythm through music and movement.

And through it all, I am reminded that while I teach mindfulness, they live it. They are the purest examples of presence- of being exactly where they are, in the moment, without judgement or agenda.

The work is humbling.
It’s awe-inspiring.
It is a gift. 💛
