Depressive disorder, or depression, is a common mental health condition that can happen to anyone. It is characterized by a low mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time. This is different from regular mood changes and feelings about everyday life. Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters. Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, such as s*x, hobbies or sports. Sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much.

About 5% of adults globally have depression 😱. That number is likely higher as not everyone who has depression obtains an official diagnosis.
Depression can be hereditary: People who have an immediate family member living with depression may have a two to three times greater risk of having depression, according to Stanford Medicine.
About 20.78% of adults in the U.S 🇺🇸 or 50 million Americans, live with mental illness, per 2019-2020 data from Mental Health America.
About 21 million adults in the U.S. (8.4%) have experienced a major depressive episode. Unfortunately,
adult women are more likely to have a major depressive episode: The prevalence among women is 10.5% versus 6.2% among men, according to statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health.

More than one in 10 young people in the U.S. are living with depression that disrupts their school, work or home life; 17% of these people aged 12 to 17 have had one major depressive episode within this past year alone.
Young adults aged 18 to 25 are at the highest risk of a major depressive episode per a report from the National Institute of Mental Health.
Depression is more common in people who give birth: 10% of pregnant people and people who have just given birth experience depression, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Do you know how to resuscitate???🩻 . Let us tell you about the miracle of CPR 🛡️🧿🩺

CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is a way to save the life of someone who’s in cardiac arrest. Using the CPR steps on someone who is not breathing can help keep them alive until the emergency services arrive. It is important to know when to do CPR and how to perform it.

CPR works by keeping a person’s blood flowing until healthcare professionals can help them. People without first aid training can still save a life by using the CPR steps.
You should initiate CPR immediately after you notice that someone’s heart stops beating. CPR can double or even triple the chances of them surviving.
In children and infants, use CPR when they are not breathing normally and not responding.
It us important to check that the area is safe, then perform the following basic CPR steps:

📞Call 911 or ask someone else to,
lay the person on their back and open their airway, then
check for breathing. If they are not breathing, start CPR.
Perform 30 chest compressions.
Perform two rescue breaths.
Repeat until an ambulance or automated external defibrillator (AED) arrives.
You can also think of the steps in CPR in order by remembering CAB:

C is for chest compressions.
A is for opening a person’s airway.
B is for giving them rescue breaths.

The menace of self medication 😷 🌡️🧪🧬💉💊🩺

The practice of self-medication applies to any ailment or condition that a person may treat without the help of a healthcare professional. This includes minor injuries or illnesses such as the common cold. Unfortunately, many people who are living from more serious health conditions, particularly mental health conditions, turn to self-medication as an alternative to seeking appropriate care. Potential risks of self-medicating serious health conditions include incorrect self-diagnosis, increased risk of drug or supplement interactions, incorrect choice of therapy and risk of dependence and abuse.

In America 🇺🇸 , 38% of men and 45% of women self-medicated at least once a day. Antidepressants were the drug of choice for those self-medicating once or more a day – 50.3% of respondents used them daily, while almost 18% took antidepressants once every few months or less. Ma*****na was also popular among those self-medicating at least once a day. Nearly 32% of people who self-medicated used ma*****na daily, while almost 30% used it at least once a week. The major dangers include 👉🏼 Incorrect self-diagnosis,
delays in seeking appropriate medical advice,
Potential adverse reactions,
Worsening of the condition,
dangerous drug interaction,
Masking of severe diseases and the
risk of dependence and abuse

Obsession and Compulsion......OCD 🧐😵‍💫

Obsessive compulsive disorder is a mental health condition where you have recurring thoughts and repetitive behaviours that you cannot control.

Symptoms typically begin during childhood, the teenage years or young adulthood, although males often develop them at a younger age than females. More than 2% of the U.S. population (nearly 1 out of 40 people) will be diagnosed with OCD during their lives. OCD affects 2-3% of people in the United States, and among adults, slightly more women than men are affected.

Did you know that.....
- OCD affects 2.5 million adults or 1.2% of the U.S. population.
- Women are 3x more likely to be affected than men.
- The average age of onset is 19, with 25% of cases occurring by age 14. One-third of affected adults first experienced symptoms in childhood.
But with regular treatment, an OCD patient can have an increased quality of life and function properly in school and at work.

The man that dribbled the world 🌍

Maradona, the name synonymous with skill, talent and soccer⚽ prowess. The diminutive Argentinian 🇦🇷 genius and legend of soccer.

But what about his struggles off the field ? ⚕ 💊 . Maradona began taking co***ne in the mid-1980s, developing an addiction to both that and alcohol which would last until 2004.

It was a problem for the Argentine at the peak of his career, which ran from 1976-1997, with him leading his country to World Cup glory in 1986 and winning a league title with Napoli in 1987 and 1990. In 2014 he told Argentina’s Tyc Sports: ‘I gave my opponents a big advantage due to my illness. Do you know the player I could have been if I hadn’t taken drugs?’ Truly, Maradona would have been unstoppable without drugs no wonder he is named as the GREATEST EVER DRIBBLER IN THE GAME OF SOCCER ⚽. Maradona’s first serious punishments over his drug use came in 1991 when he was banned for 15 months by Napoli for testing positive for co***ne – this lasted from April 1991 – June 1992.

Later in the same year he was arrested in Buenos Aires for possessing half-kilo of co***ne and was given a 14-month suspended sentence.

His health suffered badly and he suffered an overdose in 2000 and a heart attack in 2004, was forced to have gastric bypass surgery in 2005 and was in hospital again suffering from hepatitis in 2007. He died on 25th November, 2020 of natural causes. He is remembered as a FIFA ambassador, drugs-addiction advocate, coach and a legend of the beautiful game.

Mutu, the joint highest goalscorer for Romania 🇷🇴, a brilliant striker with an impressive goal haul and a nomadic career that came about from his impressive football skills.

A controversial figure off the field, Mutu received widespread attention following a positive test for co***ne while playing for Chelsea in 2005, which resulted in his immediate release from the club, a subsequent seven-month ban from the Football Association, and Mutu later being ordered to pay £15.2 million in damages to his former employers, the largest financial penalty in FIFA history. He was banned for a second time in 2010 following a positive test for sibutramine while at Fiorentina. His career highlights:

🇷🇴 Banned forever from his national team
🩸 He once drank the blood of a p**n star he was dating to be better in bed

On today's Friday story-telling 📚. We bring to you the legend of the rain maker, whose reign was shortlived. The glorious MAJEK FASHEK

In Nigeria and Africa 🌍, he was one of the early proponents of reggae music. Reggae is generally believed to be a revolutionary song used to express pain, struggle, address societal ills and call political leaders to order.

From 2015 till his death on June 1, 2020, he was in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centre. Drug addiction and alcoholism took the better part of the legend, tore him apart and made him a caricature of his old self. The former world famous, who dominated the scene and also performed on the David Letterman Show in 1992 (the biggest show on American TV station CBS at that time), became a subject of pity. His only wife Rita said “Majek was the best husband any woman could ever dream of. He was the best husband to me. But his alcoholism and drugs addiction denied us his love and care"

*When the spider 🕷️🕸️ needs a drink 🍻*

The Spider-Man: No Way Home star stopped drinking alcohol in 2022 after feeling "enslaved" to the drink. "I was definitely addicted to alcohol, not shying away from that at all," Holland recalled on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast.

"And you wake up the next day and you have a terrible headache." He says of how alcohol always caused a migraine.

🛎 since making the lifestyle change, Holland noticed he "could sleep better" and "handle problems better."

"Things that would go wrong on set that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride," he shared. "I had so much such better mental clarity. I felt healthier. I felt fitter."
