America joined the Happier At Home team in May. She jumped right in accepting shifts and helping out whenever she could. She grew up in the Manchester area. She loves to spend her free time making memories with her kids. America loves to drink coffee and be outside. She has a dog named Cash.

She enjoys being a caregiver because she loves to connect with people and help them make each moment count.

☀️ Keeping Loved Ones Safe in the Summer Heat
High temperatures can be dangerous for older adults, especially those with chronic conditions. Try these simple tips:

* Encourage hydration: Offer water regularly, even if they don’t feel thirsty.
* Stay indoors during peak heat: Limit outdoor activity between 10 AM–4 PM.
* Dress for comfort: Choose lightweight, light-colored clothing.
* Cool the home: Use fans or air conditioning, or visit a cooling center.
* Watch for warning signs: Dizziness, confusion, rapid pulse, or nausea can signal heat-related illness.

Today the Emplify Health by Gundersen West Union Area team hosted a wonderful health fair during the Fayette County Fair - West Union, IA. Penny and I were grateful to be able to talk about how we are serving all of Northeast Iowa by keeping seniors safe and . Scott Pharmacy student intern, Natalie, was a huge help in discussing the ways our pharmacy supports the work of aging gracefully at home.

☀️ July is UV Safety Awareness Month — a good reminder to check in on how we’re protecting ourselves and our loved ones from the sun.

As we age, skin becomes more sensitive, and certain medications can increase sun sensitivity. Wearing long sleeves, using sunscreen, staying hydrated, and avoiding the sun during peak hours can help prevent serious sun damage.

Even small changes can help older adults enjoy time outside more safely and comfortably this summer. How are you staying sun-safe this season?
