Breastfeeding while healing from birth is a lot 🤍

Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, your body is recovering and nourishing your baby at the same time. That’s no small thing.

Soreness, fatigue, emotional ups and downs, learning your baby’s cues—it can feel overwhelming. And if breastfeeding feels harder in this season, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.

As a lactation consultant, I remind moms: your healing matters too. Prioritize rest when you can, lean into supportive positions, stay hydrated, and don’t hesitate to ask for help.

You don’t have to push through pain or figure it all out alone. Support can make all the difference in both your recovery and your feeding journey.

Two things can be true—you can be healing and learning to breastfeed. Give yourself permission to do both, gently.

April is C-Section Awareness Month 🤍

C-section birth and breastfeeding can come with unique challenges—but they are absolutely not barriers to success.

As a lactation consultant, I support so many strong moms navigating surgical recovery while learning to feed their babies. Delayed milk coming in, positioning discomfort, sleepy babies—these are common, and they are workable.

With the right support, guidance, and patience, breastfeeding after a C-section can absolutely thrive. Simple shifts—like skin-to-skin, intentional positioning, and consistent stimulation—can make all the difference.

This month is about awareness, education, and honoring every birth story—including the ones that didn’t go as planned.

If you’re in this season: you’re not behind, and you’re not alone. Your body is healing, your baby is learning, and both of you deserve support every step of the way.

🤍 Feeding your baby after a C-section 🤍

If you’ve had a C-section, feeding your baby can look a little different—and that’s okay. Your body just did something major, and you deserve support every step of the way.

Here are a few gentle tips to help you get started:

✨ Find comfortable positions
Side-lying or the football hold can keep pressure off your incision and make feeds more comfortable.

✨ Take it slow
Your milk may take a little longer to come in after surgery. Frequent skin-to-skin and offering the breast often can help encourage supply.

✨ Use support
Pillows are your best friend—don’t be afraid to build a whole little nest to keep baby supported and your body relaxed.

✨ Stay on top of pain management
You deserve to be comfortable. Managing pain can actually help feeding go more smoothly.

✨ Ask for help early
Lactation consultants, nurses, and support groups can make a huge difference—don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed.

No matter how your baby is fed, what matters most is that both of you are cared for 💛

You’re healing. You’re learning. You’re doing enough. 🤍

Being a lactation consultant means I’ve seen it ALL — especially when it comes to pumping 🤍

Here are some real facts every mom should know:

• Pumping output is NOT a measure of your worth or your supply. Babies are way more efficient than any pump.
• Your milk changes throughout the day — mornings are usually higher volume, evenings can be smaller but richer.
• Stress, exhaustion, and even just watching the clock can affect your letdown (yes, it’s that sensitive).
• Fl**ge size matters more than people think — the wrong fit can lower output and cause pain.
• You don’t need a freezer stash to be a “good” mom. Feeding your baby today is what matters.

And the biggest one:
Pumping is not “the easy way out.” It’s time-consuming, emotional, physically demanding… and you’re doing an incredible job if it’s part of your journey.

Whether you nurse, pump, combo feed, or pivot completely — you’re showing up for your baby. That’s what counts 🤍
