Assisted stretching can help with constipation, but it usually works indirectly.
Here’s how:
1. Stimulating the Digestive System
Gentle stretches, especially those that twist or extend the torso, can help stimulate intestinal movement (peristalsis). Assisted stretching gives your body a deeper, guided stretch, which may encourage this natural movement and help relieve mild constipation.
2. Reducing Tension & Stress
Stress is a common cause of digestive issues. Assisted stretching promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and lowers stress hormones — all of which can support better digestion and bowel regularity.
3. Improving Blood & Lymph Flow
Stretching increases circulation and helps lymphatic drainage. This improved flow supports your body’s natural waste removal processes.
4. Supporting Core & Pelvic Mobility
Tight hip flexors, lower back muscles, or pelvic floor tension can sometimes contribute to digestive sluggishness. Assisted stretching can target those areas more effectively than self-stretching.
✅ Best stretches for digestion/constipation relief:
Seated or lying spinal twists
Gentle hip openers
Forward bends
Abdominal extension stretches
⚠ Note: If constipation is chronic or severe, stretching alone won’t be enough — hydration, fiber, diet, and medical guidance are key.
