We had a special search bringing multiple agencies, acting as one. When organizations come together, incredible results are accomplished.

It was a long day but we navigated tough terrain filled with dense brush and thorny barriers, pushing through every challenge in our path. Our drone Sky Ops1 was up and running, providing critical aerial support and helping guide our efforts from above.

K9 Ginny, our specialized HRD dog, was hard at work—demonstrating focus, precision, and the invaluable role K9s play in these operations. We were also proud to work alongside K9s from Greater Philadelphia Search & Rescue, whose teamwork and dedication added tremendous value to the search.

Proud of the teamwork, dedication, and professionalism displayed by everyone involved- Woodland Fire & EMS, Woodland OEM and New Jersey State Police….This is what it’s all about. 💪🚁

PRESCRIBED FIRE NOTIFICATION: Sunday, April 12

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service plans to conduct prescribed fire operations today, April 12, in the following counties: Somerset.

🔗 View the Forest Fire Service’s Prescribed Fire Notifications map to see active and upcoming prescribed fire activities: https://dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/wildfire/prescribed-fire-notifications/

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. If in doubt about the source of smoke or fire, call 9-1-1 or 877-WARN-DEP (877-927-6337).

ABOUT PRESCRIBED FIRE
There are multiple benefits to prescribed fire, which is a safe, effective and efficient means of managing the buildup of forest fuels that may contribute to the start and spread of a wildfire. By actively eliminating sources of fuel that exacerbate forest fire risks through a prescribed fire program, the Forest Fire Service reduces risk to New Jersey residents, visitors and the environment.

Prescribed fire improves habitat for plants and animals, reduce the presence of damaging insects and ticks, and recycle nutrients into the soil. In addition, prescribed fire is an important part of the state’s carbon defense strategy. Allowing experts to choose the intensity, timing and interval of fire across the landscape may help prevent a larger uncontrolled wildfire, which would contribute to significant carbon loss. Typically, the implementation of most prescribed fire take place between February and early April.

Every call, no matter how routine it may be is always a risk. While your responding to the call, working the call, or returning from the call, danger is always right around corner.
Please keep these men, their families and their station in your prayers.

Rest easy brothers, we'll take it from here.

Last night’s training was a reminder that we never take a single exercise lightly—but we do find ways to keep it engaging. With the upcoming Easter holiday in mind, our SAR techs took on a unique challenge: locating hidden “Easter eggs” under reduced visibility conditions.

Even in a fun-themed scenario, the mission stays real. Teams moved quickly yet safely, maintaining constant awareness of terrain hazards while sharpening their attention to detail—skills that matter when every second counts.

Our K9s delivered outstanding performances, including our specialized HRD teams, demonstrating once again their precision, focus, and reliability in the field.

A major highlight of the night was deploying Sky Ops 1 alongside our K9 teams. This marked our first nighttime use of the drone since its donation, and it did not disappoint. Equipped with thermal imaging and infrared technology, it provides a critical tactical advantage—helping us locate missing persons more efficiently, even in the most challenging conditions.

Training like this strengthens our team, our tools, and our readiness—so when the call comes, we’re prepared.

Thank you, Living For A Cause

Perfect weather, solid training, and hardworking K9s all around 🐕

Handlers play an equally important role, learning how to read their K9’s behavior, interpret subtle changes in movement or alert patterns. Communication, navigation, and teamwork are constantly reinforced to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Training included specialized scenarios like breakaway exercises, where the K9 must independently leave the handler’s side to pursue a scent and locate a subject. These drills build confidence, independence, and reliability in the dog’s ability to work at a distance.

Overall, SAR training is about building trust, consistency, and readiness. Through repeated, realistic scenarios, our team develops the skills needed to respond quickly and effectively when a real call for help comes in—where every second counts!

Another great training day for our team!

Today we worked with our K9 search dogs, cadaver (HRD) dogs, and drone team, strengthening the skills that are critical during real search missions. Combining drone technology with our K9 teams allows us to search more efficiently.

We’re proud of the dedication from our SAR techs, handlers, pilot, and incredible dogs who continue to give their all in training. 🐾🚁
