I had a little chuckle with myself this morning. My nephews and I were getting ready for the first day back to school after the long holiday stretch. I don’t know about you, but the days still feel a bit floaty right now. Collectively, we’ve just moved through this big inhale and exhale—closing 2025 and waking into 2026 in the middle of a cold winter, still finding our footing day by day.

In a passing thought before we headed to the bus, I realized this is my (our) 11th anniversary of Sunshine Kate’s as a brick-and-mortar. I had “temporarily” moved back from Seattle in late 2014 with a quiet prayer to the universe—if I was meant to stay in NJ, may I find an office to open.

The laugh this morning carried every single emotion—the full spectrum of the life cycle we can experience and have.

These 11 years have been nothing short of a true adventure—inward and outward, expanding and contracting, questioning every moment, and stepping into the steadiest, rooted places and forward and back, many times over.

You’ve been part of this journey, and I thank you.

January feels like a quiet in-between month. We are slowly finding our footing after closing 2025 and honoring Nature’s rhythms to move slowly,
It’s a time to turn inward, rest and listen to the inner world.

A boy and a pup.
I walked out of the room for a moment and came back into this gaze.

Gosh, this life is so precious.

These two have been bonded since he was 3 days old.

Current moments: he’s growing and developing like a thriving beanstalk.
And she is on the other side of the spectrum: she’s deaf now, her eye sight is declining, her bones are growing weary.

But their love and spirit is something of a ethereal ❤️

This is what I am carrying into 2026.

The devotion of love.

These two have been great teachers to me and in 2026, I want to carry what they show me.

Presence.
To pay attention and tune into the moment.  To be with the magic and miracles in the here and now.

This tender time.
What a gift.

For now, I’d like to continue to drink in the beauty of nature. This sunny cold winter day was soul nourishment. ✨

It was no accident we came across a few caves tucked away in the woods on a beautiful mountain on the eve of the Winter Solstice ❄️

The cave, the womb of Nature, invites us inward. Winter gently draws the energy down into the belly, into the quiet emptiness of the void.

Winter is a time of more stillness, more quiet, more dreaming.

✨It feels like an alchemical moment of this Winter Portal, letting this wild experience of 2025 infuse and steep in the cauldron, extracting the medicine meant to keep tending to on the journey❤️

🌑 New Moon in Sag today leads us into the Winter Solstice Portal on Sunday.

Last night, we made snow angels before the wind/rain/snow/thunder moved in and temps shift from 50 - 17 degrees.

These moments. Soul moments. Sweet Sacred Stillness and the Beauty in Nature. We drink them in and fill the heart cups.

I had a sense of guilt feeling this peace on the beach with the 🐶 girls after learning about the horrific shootings events that just happened in Rhode Island & Bondi Beach..
And I don’t have an answer, but I keep leaning in more intimately towards the feeling that all of it can live in the heart:
