Good Friday
We can’t have Easter Sunday without Good Friday.
Jesus needed to be sacrificed, he needed to die in order to be resurrected. Today stands as the dark reminder of what the world was and still is, for which we all need a savior. Jesus is our savior. Just as Jews needed a perfect lamb for Passover, we need a perfect lamb as our savior. Jesus is our lamb.
We often look at Jesus as being perfect, so we don’t look at how much pain He experienced for us. It was not easy. Betrayed by His own friends, beaten, and crucified. Jesus experienced life just as the rest of us. He dealt with temptations, pain, suffering. John 11:35 has become favorite verse of mine.
It reads “Jesus Wept”
Yes, short and simple, but it holds so much weight. Jesus was experiencing the pain of losing a friend. Though He is perfect, He is not excluded from the emotions, feelings, mental, physical stress of the world. This verse is a reminder Jesus dealt with all of the same things we do. As we come into Jesus death on the cross and all He experienced at the hands of Roman and Jewish leaders, we can know it was not painless. It was not an easy task, a simple walk in the park, a peaceful death. It was truly a sacrifice of love and all of our lives are important because of Jesus.
As you go through today and the rest of this weekend, I encourage you to remember the real reason for the holiday. Easter is not about bunnies and candy. It’s about the promise God made to us, the chance we have been given to have eternal life in heaven, redemption for our sins. If you don’t know Jesus and want learn please reach out. I would be happy to pray with you, share with you, encourage you, and help you in anyway possible.
