Your Cell Phone Is 10 Times Dirtier Than a Toilet Seat. Here's What to Do About It

Americans check their phones approximately 50 times per day and more. We set our phones down on public surfaces like restaurant tables/bars, checkout counters, on the top of bathroom counters or somewhere in bathroom stalls etc. Every touchpoint in daily life we contact with our hands (without washing) also goes onto our cell phones.

Essentially, your phone is a breeding ground for germs and it's dirtier than a toilet seat. A few of the standout germs that could be lurking on your phone include E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus.

Research has varied on just how many germs are crawling on the average cell phone, but a recent study found more than 17,000 bacterial gene copies on the phones of high school students. Scientists at the University of Arizona have found that cell phones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats.

One of the worst places to use your phone is in the bathroom. When toilets flush, they spread germs everywhere, which is how phones end up with f***l bacteria like E. coli.

How to keep your phone cleaner?
Many people just wipe their phones with a soft microfiber cloth, which will remove many of the germs. For a deeper clean, use a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol and gently wipe it across your phone. Don't use liquid or spray cleaners as they can damage your phone.

WASH YOUR HANDS. Don't be a scum.

WHAT IS REALLY IN YOUR KITCHEN SPONGE?

According to a jawdropping study published in Scientific Reports, 362 different species of bacteria live in our kitchen sponges. The density of bacteria reached up to 45 billion per square centimeter. - THATS Forty-five billion microbes per square centimeter!

The USDA recommends putting it in the dishwasher with a heated dry cycle, or wetting the sponge and popping it in the microwave for a minute. Microwaving the sponge will knock down the bacteria living in it by about a million-fold.

Of course, this method will leave many still alive since there are billions in the sponge. But the heat targets the dangerous ones -
It doesn't sterilize the sponge.

THROW YOUR SPONGES AWAY EVERY COUPLE WEEKS. I personally do not use sponges. They are disgusting.

How to Clean a Badly Scorched Pot/Pan:

- 1 cup of vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda
- 1 cup of water (give or take depending on the size of your pan)
- Your burned stainless steel pot or pan
- A scourer, because theres no way to completely avoid it's use

1. Fill the bottom of the pan with a layer of water.

2. Add the vinegar.

3. Bring the pan to the boil. It should be looking a bit cleaner already.

4. Remove the pan from the heat and add the baking soda. Don't panic, it will fizz!

(To avoid dramatic fizz which can require much wipe up, pour out the vinegar and then add the baking soda.)

5. Empty the pot/pan and scour as normal; if necessary add an extra bit of dry baking soda.

6. If there are any really stubborn marks that don't come off with easy scouring, make a paste of baking soda and a couple of drops of water. Leave the paste on the marks for a little while and then revisit it and try cleaning again.

7. That's it!! You just saved yourself some precious time and aggravation.

The BEST pre-wash stain treatment - According to Good Housekeeping.

It's best to treat and wash a stain right away, but that's not always possible. Luckily, you can leave this formula on fabric for up to a week until it's time to do laundry. "It also does a great job on set-in stains — even if they've gone through the dryer,"
