An oral and maxillofacial surgeon may recommend TMJ surgery if:

✔️ You consistently feel intense pain when opening or closing your mouth.
✔️ You can’t open or close your mouth all the way.
✔️ You have difficulty eating or drinking because of jaw pain or immobility.
✔️ Your pain or immobility gets worse over time, even with nonsurgical treatments.
✔️ You have structural problems or diseases in your jaw joint, which have been confirmed radiologically with imaging.
