How does nursing can impact life between the sheets? Read on for some helpful info from 👇🏽🌵

Repost from

Today we're talking about breastfeeding and your va**na... does it impact s*x... or not?

The answer: IT CAN!!!!

⭐Research has shown that:

✔Women who breastfeed exhibit decreased estrogen levels

✔Symptomatic hypoestrogenic (low estrogen levels) can present as va**nal dryness

📢 SOLUTIONS:

😊Lubricate!
A silicone based l**e requires less reapplication and great for "water play"

😊Increased foreplay. Stimulate some blood flow so you can make more magic happen

😊Change positions. Play around with a few different positions and see what feels best.

😊Add a toy 😊

Ok the toy doesn't fix your low estrogen or technically your dryness but it can add some spice to s*x and might take your mind off of the negative.

Time to show some love!

Repost from

When you put it like that...

Ok, to start, because someone is gonna say it...I know labour can last longer than a day 😉 my first labour was record breaking lol.

During our pregnancies we prep & prep for birth. Pregnancy apps & books jump straight from talking about labour to talking about newborn care.

When I first had my daughter, I went back & checked all the books & apps I’d read before her birth. I MUST have missed the chapter on postpartum. I hadn’t. I scanned the table of contents, if there was ANY mention of the mother after birth in the books, it was a bit about the importance of breastfeeding & maybe a bit on the return to work..
These books missed a LOT. So I started researching. What I found shocked me.

The ‘Fourth Trimester’ as it’s often called is THE most profound time in a person’s life. Neurological, hormonal, immune & psychological changes all happen in the most drastic & short period of time, that anyone experiences across the lifespan. Read that again.

Yet, we as a society, don’t talk about this change. The number 1 thing I’ve heard from new mothers was “I WISH someone had have told me about this”. So, in learning about my own recovery, I set out to change the dynamic in our society to be supportive of new mothers.

I’ve changed my practice, I’m participating in advocacy & research for perinatal mental health, I’ve created a Continuing Education course for my colleagues & I speak or write about this every chance I get. & I have BIGGGG things coming for you in 2021 to make these changes 😁🙌🏼.

This isn’t ok that your healing isn’t even considered. We need to change our sub-standard model of care for the postpartum person. Your healing needs to be addressed at the neurological, hormonal, immune & psychological levels—NOT just a quick 6-week check-up that tells you it’s cool to start having s*x & exercising. This does not take into account what you’ve just experienced (understatement)!

In fact, even research from 20+ years ago calls for this change! It’s time for a change.

What happens to the pelvic floor after baby? shares some knowledge for pregnancy, birth & beyond.

Thinking of having a baby?⁣

Or have you never had children and you p*e during exercise?⁣

Ever wonder why before surgery people are advised to strengthen certain musculature in order to prepare for their recovery? ⁣

Yet, we don't often hear about women⁣ being advised to prepare for probably the most athletic traumatic event their body will experience in a lifetime: 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩⁣

Why is that? ⁣

I brought on one of my best friends and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Heidi Gastler on the show to talk about just that. ⁣

Heidi goes into great detail about what EXACTLY happens to a woman's vag area during childbirth, the importance of preparing the body for this but also the gravity of "rehabbing" the body post-partum, and even how women who p*e during exercise can benefit from some of these same approaches. ⁣

It is eye opening and insightful information that everyone who plans on having a baby should seek to understand.

Check out this upcoming course that’ll help get you in the right mind & body space for pregnancy, birth & beyond. Our friends .leigh.foster & know their stuff 🙌🏽

Very excited to offer this upcoming series with my “Mamaste” partner .leigh.foster 🤰🏻. Starting on January 12th we will be offering a 6 week series for expecting mamas which will incorporate movement and education each class. The way we move and breath is directly related to the way we are able to function throughout pregnancy, cope and progress throughout the stages of labor, and heal postpartum. Education is crucial in advocating for ourselves, knowing our options, and being able to better understand and move through labor. Combining the two made perfect sense! So whether you want an epidural or a natural birth, if you are planning on having a doula or not, this series is for you! Our goal is to prepare you physically, mentally, and emotionally all the way through postpartum.

Fun fact Friday! Today’s topic: Diastasis Recti! 🤗

Repost from

🖍️5 Things to Consider in a Diastasis Recti Self Check

The earliest we like to check for diastasis recti is 6 weeks postpartum. Then, we prefer to check every 4-8 weeks afterward. It is truly not necessary to check every week or every two weeks. Constant checking will continue to aggravate diastasis recti and have you doing mini crunches all the damn time.

Less frequent checking allows you to trust in your body and the plan.

The more you move functionally and allow your body to heal itself without incessantly needing to make sure it’s approximating, the better both your body and mind will be.

Progress will be observed as the foundation is established and building blocks are added, and the little things start to add up. The immediate postpartum period is a year. Give yourself grace to heal from the inside out. ⁣

When you DO self-check for diastasis recti, please keep these things in mind: ⁣

🔹We observe width and depth of abdominal separation. ⁣
🔹Tissue integrity is just as important as width and depth. ⁣

Loving this pelvic floor post! Preach 🙌🏽

Repost from

Bet your OB didn’t talk to you about 🤷‍♀️

There is so much to discuss when it comes to caring for yourself post-baby. Most of the important stuff either isn’t talked about by your doctor, or is mentioned briefly with little to no follow-through or continued support. Having a baby is a huge stressor for your body, how informed & prepared you are can be the difference between whether you’re riding the prevention train, or the treatment train (psa- prevention is the name of the game with bodies).

We’re all about that breathwork 🙌🏽

Repost from

Take a moment and BREATHE with us! ✨The breath is what connects you back into your body. It's what brings you into the present moment. Be mindful of your breath. Notice how deep your breathing is and make a conscious effort to expand each and every breath you take.
 .
Use this 4-7-8 breath work method to aid with stress and anxiety.
 .
1️⃣Inhale through your nose for a count of 4
2️⃣Fill up your belly and hold for 7
3️⃣Exhale through your mouth pushing all the air out and making a “whoosh” sound for a count of 8. The intention is to release all energies that are no longer serving you!
 .
You can repeat this up to four times.
