Germany is now farming electricity. Literally. Engineers and scientists at Fraunhofer ISE are teaming up with VOEN Vöhringer GmbH to take solar energy to the next level, by mounting solar panels right above crops.

It’s called agrivoltaics, and it's kind of genius. In one pilot site in Fronreute, cherry orchards now sit under elevated solar canopies that generate up to 420 kilowatts per hectare while keeping the fruit cool, protected from UV rays, hail, and heavy rain.

The best part is that the shade helps reduce irrigation, improves crop quality, and uses existing greenhouse setups, saving big on construction and emissions. Smart software ensures both crops and energy production thrive without stepping on each other's toes.

Early results show yields are just as good, if not better. This dual-harvest approach is catching on fast across Europe and Asia, with Germany and Japan leading the charge.

This is what regenerative farming can look like. 🌺 🌿 🌸

This is a picture of the Eden Project in Cornwall, England. Unlike conventional monoculture planting, this polyculture system diversifies the soil life, making plants less susceptible to pests and disease.

Regenerative farming applies the Buddhist wisdom of pratītyasamutpāda (dependent origination) and inter-being to agriculture.

One could also describe this as aligning with the ecological wisdom of Nature, what some African cultures call "ubuntu" - the Indigenous wisdom that all LIFE is interdependently related as a whole, and thrives best as one family. 🌍 🌎 🌏

“If you picture the city of the future, think less of smart tech, flying cars and skyscrapers; think more of cascading foliage, farms on flat roofs, rough urban meadows, and dense groves of forest. Cities are changing fast, as they always have done. The tendency in the twenty-first century will be for them to go greener, as a form of self defense if nothing else.” - Ben Wilson

THLH is a vision of creating an example or model for a more equitable healthy future for a broader range of people in our community.

Correcting Medicaid’s bias for institutionalization, instead of in-home care, requires an investment in home and community-based services that benefit seniors, people with disabilities, and the direct care workers who support them.
