Well, I agree. Today’s economy is bad, especially when we go through the market to feed our family. I also believe we can be smarter in the choices that we make pull away from process foods and spend less. Yesterday I went shopping and as like many of you completely completely still in shock about some of the prices that I see but I spent $100 and $60 healthy produce aisle and it was all organic or mostly organic. Items such as fruit and vegetables and avocados and potatoes and onions and garlic. A package of chicken thighs and a turkey breast. Dinner was the chicken thighs with asparagus and fresh made pasta. The cost was under seven dollars and for David and it’s two meals for our family for it could be one meal. Here’s the breakdown.

1. H-E-B fresh chicken thighs, $4.19 package of four
2. Asparagus, which I used half of what I purchased during my last grocery shopping $2.75
3. One lemon $0.80
4. Seasonings -salt, pepper, garlic, parsley
5. Fresh pasta- flour and 2 eggs $0.25 per egg if you’re buying the cheapest eggs at H-E-B. Otherwise it’s upwards of $.50.

Now have I not made this food it would’ve significantly cost higher example making fresh pasta for less than a dollar versus buying fresh pasta. 10 minutes to make it let it rest while the food is cooking and you roll it out. Cut it. Cook it in three minutes . Seems simple just takes a little bit of planning. You could even make a quick dessert or biscuits.

Or we can continue to buy prepared foods and spend much more money than we should. For goodness sakes a bag of chips is 6 to 7 dollars now.

So this is something I’ve been thinking about launching classes on this very subject as part of our nonprofit Thrive For Life under our life essential skills.

I’m starting to build the content so please comment here if you have interest.

If we are what we eat and we don’t want biotechnology in our food then how do we ensure what we buy is clearly non-GMO? Thinking about this today and the organic label seems to ensure that we’re not consuming genetically modified product. Correct? At least that’s my understanding as I research. I know what I grow is non-GMO because of the seeds that I buy and the dirt and fertilizer I use. Trying to eat as clean as possible.

So motivated to see my results and I would LOVE Partners.

The best way to stay healthy is to know what’s in your food. I make kombucha for pennies on the dollar as well as use a blender to juice, greens and vegetables to make a delicious refreshing beverage. Does anyone follow these practices and if so what do you make? Let’s share some recipes.
