We often give food and fitness too much power. And man it can sure steal our joy! Anyone else? Been there, done that, I could write the book. It would be a really loooooong book, tho, if you know me.😂🙋🏼‍♀️ We are constantly being bombarded with new diets, trendy exercises and it can all so easily steal our focus. Finding freedom in our wellness, begins when we show up with an unchained heart, refusing to give those things power over us. When we stop obsessing over numbers, grams, checkins and everything in between. When our purpose or “reason why” becomes greater than just looking a certain size.

And when purpose collides with grace, we find Freedom.💙

This morning I was sent the most precious painting of my sweet Cal. I can barely take it and I will cherish this blessing forever. The beautiful artist behind it has a heart bigger than Texas. My friend, . (Swipe left to see the pic she painted from, such God-given talent. And also to see my beautiful sister.) We connected with each other a couple years ago, when I was a part of the Prayfit team. Social media has always been so hard for me. I often think I’d much rather not even be on here, but then I’m reminded of the fruit that can come out of it, such as building sweet friendships like ours. We might live in two separate states, her Alabama and me, Texas, but our connection runs deep. Because it’s rooted in Jesus. Adrianna, you inspire me for a million reasons, you are kind, servant hearted and you reflect Jesus to our hurting world. You are a loving wife, puppy mama, friend to many and the world is better because of you. I can’t wait to frame this gem and I’ll think of you each time I see it! Looking forward to hugging your neck one day soon.

May we never take for granted the freedoms that we have, and how BLESSED we are to live in the greatest country on the planet. And may we always HONOR and respect those who paid the ultimate price for you and me. God bless the American soldier. And their families, too.

Remembering the sacrifice of all those who gave it all. 🙏🏼❤️🇺🇸

And I can’t help but think how better this world would be, if we would all pause, and pull up a seat next to a soldier, whether they’re 19 or 99+, and listen to their story.

One of the fruits that has grown out of this season of sheltering at home for me, has been taking the time to create scripture cards, with conversation starters, to use at the family table during mealtimes. I’ve always had the desire to do this, bc I think oftentimes we miss the opportunities for physical/emotional/spiritual healing, renewal and grace, while gathering there. We can get so focused on inhaling our food, thinking about what we need to do afterwards or being distracted by the noise in our heads or blaring from the tv in the background. On the contrary, a heart that is flowing with gratitude, and that fights to be still and present will be changed. And from a physiological standpoint, being intentional and present while eating allows the body to heal within, too.

My hopes with these cards, is that they’d be a reminder of new mercies and of the importance of connection. And that they’d be an open invitation for us to make room for more of Him, even while gathering at mealtimes. Nourishing our bodies, while also nourishing our souls.

Putting this together took more hours than it should, I must admit, mainly bc I would research, read and create in the dark, during Cal’s nap time, bc I knew if I left her room, I’d be tempted to do something else. So chances are good I’ll find a typo or repeated word, but that just makes it even more endearing, I think.

To my single/widowed friends... these cards are for you, too. We don’t have to have another physical being sitting next to us, to be known. You are known and loved, fully and completely, just as you are! My hopes are that as you go through a card each day, you’ll be reminded of the answered prayers of the past, the blessings of the present and of the storehouse of good things to come. He’s authoring a beautiful story in your life right this second.

If you’d like a copy of these 84 scripture/conversation starters to use at mealtime, message me your email and I’d be honored to share. Sending love from my corner to yours.💙

18 months!🤩

And just like that, we’ve already made a trip and a half around the sun!☀️😍

She is pure joy! She keeps us on our toes and she fills our hearts (and coffee mugs🤪😴) to overflowing, each day.

She’s a daddy’s girl! Loves to laugh, make silly faces, “talk,” EXPLORE, dance (her signature move is turning in circles), climb on top of everything, RUN, catch bubbles, collect rocks, transfer objects from one container to another, “ride” her bike, chase a ball and her furbrother, play with calculators/old cell phones and remotes, read books, empty baskets and cabinets, play with water and with her sand table.

She loves walks, being outside, playing with her besties Pacer, Maddox and Parker, stirring and pouring, bath time, Easter egg hunts (thanks Wood crew!), helping with housework, unzipping bags, making music with her play instruments, playing with coin drops, keeping a close eye on her basket of pacis😂, smelling and picking flowers, carrying around office supplies and playing with pens (like mama😂), opening and closing objects and being in her little playroom.

She loves to eat and is a founding member of the club, making this mama so proud. She enjoys choosing her snacks herself, and always remembers to close the pantry door afterwards.😂 She loves most foods, her favorites are sweet potato, butternut squash, peas, broccoli, Brussels, beef, chicken, salmon, avocado, yogurt, ketchup, raw milk, toast, crackers, oatmeal, waffles, smoothies, kiwi and of course frozen blueberries. She loves to share her food with her furbrother, too!

She is still not a fan of naps/getting to bed on time or being too far away from mama and daddy. She’s a tad impatient, but gets it honestly. Her spirit is wild and free, like that beautiful mane she rocks. And we make a pretty good team, equal parts JOY and hot mess. And I wouldn’t change anything for the world. She is this mama’s favorite forever gift!🙏🏼🌈💜

Cheers to a lifetime of sweet moments and precious memories with Cal and premature gray hairs and wrinkles for mama and daddy, too.🤩💙

When I was in college, my mom followed a system, that helped keep her her organized during a season that consisted of putting in way too many work hours, taking care of my grandmother, keeping her family together, volunteering and everything in between. quickly became one of her best friends. I remember seeing her well-loved/worn FlyLady binder, with pages of tips and encouragement. We would joke with her about our newest family member, this FlyLady, but I was also so proud of her for being a “doer,” always finding the grit to make things happen. After 20 years, I still can recall the foundational habit of TFL: go to bed each night with a shiny sink. Man, that is one golden nugget right there! And if you haven’t tried it, TRY IT. It really does make such a huge difference, when you wake up in the AM. 🆕Our homes are our safe havens, a place where we can just be. But, It’s hard to stay calm, when your home is a mess. (No judgement here, bc up until recently my house looked like a frat house on a Saturday morning.) As you recall, LEAP #1 has us focusing on decluttering and donating. LEAP #5 piggy backs on it. Now, that we are organizing our home, let’s also attach a few habits, to keep our house clean, so that we avoid the “frat house syndrome.”
🆙ACTION STEP for LEAP #5: Write down your daily cleaning goals. Stick with it. Here’s mine:
🆕Nighttime:
1️⃣Shine my sink (thanks FlyLady, you’re the OG!😎) 2️⃣Clear kitchen table of clutter.
3️⃣Straighten Cal’s playroom and nursery.
4️⃣Lay out our clothes for the next day.
🆕Morning:
1️⃣Make my bed.
2️⃣Get dressed for the day, even if I don’t have anywhere to go.
💙Thank you for taking this 5 step journey with me! I’ll plan on posting more on each step, down the road, too. Bc this has become SO good for my own freedom and I’m hopeful it will inspire you, too. Cheers to minimizing our external chaos, so that our internal self will be open to receive MORE peace, joy, healing and FREEDOM. And cheers to approaching these tasks, with grace and grit, NOT as work to be despised, BUT as opportunities to “work heartily” as to the Lord.💙 (Col 3:23-24)

The nutritionist is finally mentioning something about nutrition, on this 5 part journey!🙌🏼😉 Having a loose plan regarding weekly meals, will dramatically decrease stress on busy nights, leaving more time for connection and relaxation. If we don’t have a plan, it’s common to throw together a meal that might be more processed, bc we are just trying to get it on the table. This takes us farther away from our wellness goals and keeps us in a fight or flight state, instead of being able to unwind in the evening. But, before we can plan our weekly meals, we have to know what foods we have, right?

Your ACTION STEP for Leap #4: Inventory, clean and organize your pantry, refrigerator and freezer. Sure this takes time. But, it makes for lasting change. Besides, many of us have a little more time on our hands this season... why not use it for crushing some wellness goals, so that we can thrive in life?
I like to use a paper inventory list and attach it inside of the pantry door. For the freezer, I use a large letter-sized magnet and notate what’s inside. When I use it, erase it. Also, consider using baskets, risers and mason jars, so that you can better see your food items. And when organizing, take everything out and clean the shelves with a water/vinegar/EO solution. Bc there will undoubtedly be something sticky in each area. Please tell me I’m not the only one? Finally, after you’ve completed your action step, you will be able to build a loose weekly menu, based on what you have. And those meals don’t have to be a fancy recipe, no overthinking it. Food is fuel. And boy does it feel good to see your inventory go down, knowing you’re being intentional with your planning. Having food in our pantry is such a blessing, and preventing food waste bc we know what’s in our kitchen is a pretty cool feeling, too. In this with you.👊🏼 What’s your favorite menu planning tip? I’d love to know.💙

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5

LEAP #3, probably my favorite one of all. Bc when I get it right, I feel such an overwhelming sense of peace and a fresh revelation of God’s love for me. And that He desires to FILL our cups. He’s waiting, with opened arms, for us to surrender and cease striving, so that He can breathe new life into us. We weren’t created to be in the driver’s seat of our life. Man, that’s so good. YOUR ACTION STEP FOR LEAP #3: Create your own morning routine. Write it down, so that it goes from being wishful thinking to a BATTLEPLAN. Stay the course and I will, too.💙👊🏼 Swipe 👈🏻 to see my morning routine written out in my journal. I hope it inspires you. And please know that you inspire ME. In this together.👊🏼 We are LOVED.

Coming at ya with Step 2, of our freedom journey! (And can I just say that hearing back from you, has truly blessed me.🙏🏼 It reminds my soul that we aren’t ever alone on these journeys. And we are so much better together. I am cheering y’all on!💙) Back to step 2... This one has been a game-changer for me. I’m still settling into it, but even the progress I’ve made thus far, has been heart-changing. With an evening routine, one size does not fit all. For optimal health and healing, we all will have a few constants, though, like: unplugging, not dealing with big issues if possible, or not eating a couple of hours before bed. And aiming for 7-8 hours of sleep. This will all allow the body to naturally release melatonin, while suppressing cortisol, allowing for a more restorative and deeper sleep. And when we enter into that deep sleep, detoxification and renewal literally occur! The human body is AMAZING. But, aside from a few commonalities, each person’s routine might look different, bc we all have different schedules, wear different hats and so on. YOUR ACTION STEP FOR LEAP #2: Establish AND write down YOUR evening routine. Put some prayer, thought and heart into it. And set yourself up for success. Swipe 👈🏻 to see what my routine ultimately will look like, in case you’d like some inspo. Also, 3️⃣ things I want to make sure and mention... ONE: Let’s remind ourselves that it’s ok to not always stick to our plan, bc things happen that just don’t allow us to stay the course, like a toddler who won’t sleep, or being forced to respond to an email way too late. When this happens, let’s give grace and ebb and flow with the tide. It will eventually settle. TWO: Try your new evening routine for atleast 30 days, tweaking as needed, bc I PROMISE that you will eventually see positive change. THREE: Using a blue light blocking clip-on book lamp is a good idea.🤩 It blocks those blue lights, which confuse the hypothalamus, the control center of our brain that “connects” our nervous system to our endocrine system, and that directly impacts our sleep cycles. @ Mansfield, Texas
