It’s w/ great sadness that I post about the passing of one of my most influential mentors & overall favorite human beings, Dr. Mark Bernhardt. His message was simple: never stop learning, work hard, & put your patients’ needs above all else. His sincere interest in resident education was trumped only by his big personality & kind heart. As graduating orthopedic residents at UMKC, he ensured we knew who our orthopedic forefathers were &, more importantly, who our “ortho daddy” was. Rest in peace, Big Daddy. You will be missed, Sir. Your impact on our lives &, more importantly, our patients’ lives will continue in perpetuity.
My sincere & heartfelt condolences to his wonderful family. I hope his positive influence on all of our careers offers a bit of solace during such a tragic time.
