Do you get bored with just going out for a run? Maybe it's time to spruce them up, here are a few ideas to help make running more fun! đ
â
Mix in some strength fun! To break up a run, try adding a strength move at each mile mark. something like 10 pushups or plank for 1:00 at each mile.
â
Mix in some drills mid-run. At every mile, mix in some running related technique drills (or change the plane) - such as add some side strides (running side ways'ish), run slowly backwards, skip, two-footed hops, slow down and work on pulling heels to hips.
â
Play a fun game of "vary your pace". This doesn't mean you have to add in super fast stuff (unless you want to), but making small speed adjustments oddly can be fun. You can pick a landmark to run to every so many minutes, or just spend a mile slowly building, than the next mile slowly backing off.
â
Find a new place to run or a route you've never done before.
â
Run on a surface you don't often get to run on - sand, dirt, wood chips, grass, etc. (no need to worry about your speed)
â
Create a fun circuit and do it for a given amount of time. For instance, you can run for 2:00, drop and do 1:00 plank, then do 100 jumping jacks, 10 broad jumps, 10 push ups, 10 burpees, 1:00 minute plank - repeat as many rounds as you can in 45 minutes.
â
If you're truly feeling burned out, give yourself a recovery week where there's no pressure to do anything in particular. The only goal that week is to have fun. Bring your phone to take epic pictures. Maybe treat yourself to a podcast during your run. Do a run/walk on a hilly route.
What ideas do you have to spruce up your runs every once in a while?
