This past week has been filled with heavy conversations, tears, and prayers in our home. We’ve held moments of service, silence in prayer, and long hours of good conversations, for those affected by 9/11, and now, for the family of Charlie Kirk.
As we’ve helped with remembrance events in our community, our focus has been on teaching the rising generation—many of whom don’t fully understand the magnitude of 9/11—why faith, service, and kindness matter, especially in times of trial. A day of tragedy can also be a day of unity and compassion, as we remember the men and women who lost their lives and honor those who protect our freedom and liberty.
In the midst of these preparations, and as many are speaking up and teaching the need for vigilance, truth, peace, and education to prevent such tragedies in the future our hearts were shattered again by the tragic loss of a young father, husband, son, brother, and child of God—Charlie Kirk. He stood boldly for youth, for freedom, for faith, and for truth. He made his voice heard and lifted the name of Jesus. Our children, young people and many, looked up to him as an example of courage and resilience, helping them face difficult conversations and overcome fear. His life was a testimony of strength in a world that desperately needs it. Whether you agreed with him or not, he stood the example of having that conversation over silence and conviction and faith over fear.
We lift prayers for comfort and strength for his devoted wife, Erica, their sweet children, and all of their family and friends. As we reflect, let us use this time to reach out—to loved ones, to neighbors, even to those we may disagree with. Though his earthly life was taken far too soon and in a horrific way, his voice and his example will continue to speak louder than ever. Let us honor him by continuing the conversations, standing for truth, and living with greater compassion.
Anger and fighting get us nowhere. Be kind. Choose unity. Continue the difficult conversations and love without condition. ❤️
