Have you heard of “Wintering” in the Hygge tradition?
It’s the Scandenavian idea that winter isn’t for pushing or reinventing yourself, it’s for conserving energy until the light comes back.
For many women, especially mothers, the run-up to Christmas is anything but restful. Planning, organising, carrying the mental load, making it magical, keeping it all going and everyone happy.
And then comes January with its pressure from society, to reset, go hard, be motivated, be better.
But if energy is lower, it may be an indication that your body wants quieter days, especially for those of us in midlife, when we’er no longer interested in performing on cue.
Of course it’s still good to eat better, move, and find your rhythm again after the Holidays. That’s called self-care.
Some women love going full throttle in January and February — and that’s okay
But there’s also permission over these next two months to listen to your body instead of the noise.
To rest without guilt.
To let Winter be Winter.
If this time of year feels slower for you, nothing needs fixing. You might just be wintering!
