What is CUPPING?
Cupping is the only decompressive procedure completed on soft tissue. All other soft tissue treatments are compressive, like massage, trigger point release, and joint mobilizations.
Cupping is supposed to draw fluid into the area; the discoloration is due to broken blood vessels just beneath the skin, much like a bruise. Cupping has been popular in Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures going back thousands of years, but increasing numbers of people worldwide have been adopting it. Celebrities and athletes have popularized it in the U.S. in recent years.
Cupping (decompression) increases blood flow, releases tension and trigger points in the muscles, relieves pain, improves lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and removes built-up toxins, among other things.
For 4-6 hours post cupping, avoid exposure to:
- Caffeine, alcohol, sugary foods and drinks, dairy, and processed meats. These foods slow down your body's ability to process the treatment.
- Hot showers, saunas, hot tubs and strong air conditioning. ...
Intense exercise.
- Cold and windy conditions.
