On this day, we honor the founding of the National Guard, the first formal military branch in the United States. From our beginnings in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636 to today, the Guard has stood ready to defend our communities and our Nation.
For nearly four centuries, the Citizen-Soldiers of the Guard have answered the call — at home and abroad — embodying service, sacrifice, and resilience.
We are proud to celebrate this enduring legacy and the men and women of the Georgia National Guard who continue to protect and serve.
