The Director of Nursing of Long Term Care is a registered nurse who primarily oversees Long Term Care (LTC) and assists the CNO in directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to customers of a SEARHC Long Term facility. He/She has specific duties related to the MDS process and coordinates and organizes nursing care related to the resident assessment, as set forth in the Medicaid/Medicare guidelines.

The Rural Family Practice Physician provides comprehensive family medicine services within the scope of training and experience to people of all ages and genders. In addition, depending upon the needs of the particular community, the Rural Physician participates in shared after- hours emergency call coverage. Medical care provided is consistent with SEARHC policy and procedure, Medical Staff Bylaws, and nationally recognized medical standards of care.

Coordinates a variety of nursing care procedures for residents of various ages which requires professional knowledge and consideration of specific resident conditions and treatment. Participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other members of the healthcare team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the long term care setting. Guidelines include physician’s orders, standards of care, nursing policies and procedures, manuals, hospital and long-term care policies.



Clinical decisions are made initially independently during the scheduled shift; maintains complete accountability for all actions taken. Consults with the appropriate manager/supervisor in difficult situations requiring additional input. Able to react in a calm manner and make sound nursing judgments in an emergency environment. Accountable for proper delegation and supervision of CNA/Tech, LPN, and/or Ward Clerk on unit during shift.

Perform radiographic exams, including Computed Tomography (CT) and radiography works independently in performing these modalities. Collaborate with radiologists, providers, and other technologists to improve patient care. Provides call services on a rotational basis. Apply previous computer experience to new applications for imaging and record keeping. May be required to travel to provide services at clinics throughout the Consortium. Understand that inadequate communication with the patient, provider, and radiologist can adversely affect patient health. Creatively works with other SEARHC staff to solve problems.

Must have the ability to react in a calm functional manner and make sound judgments within scope of duties when taking care of ill patients/residents and in the event of emergencies. Job requires lifting of patients/residents who are non-ambulatory on a regular interval. Mentally requires a caring attitude in dealing with both acute and non-acute patients/residents and families on a steady basis. Responsible for ensuring operational alignment and goal congruence of all aspects of laboratory services for Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center (MEMC) Hospital Services. The performance of this department has a direct and significant impact on the health care delivered by MEMC and on individual patients. Works with the CLIA license holders to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards and abides by CLIA guidelines as mandated in regulation and defers medical decision making to Laboratory Medical Director, physician license holder, or clinical consultant. Performs in a professional manner, respects confidentiality, and demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the seven Standards for Service Excellence outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual.

Responsible for management of the MEMC clinical laboratory, including supervision of personnel, budget administration, quality assurance and management, supply procurement and contract negotiation, selection and purchase of equipment, all administrative laboratory functions, and compliance with all regulatory agencies. Performs administrative duties for the Harvest LIS system and co-administrator of the Copia LIS system. Also performs laboratory testing at all levels in the clinical laboratory.



Responsible for ensuring operational alignment and goal congruence of all aspects of laboratory services across the organization and cost quantity and quality of services is directly related to the incumbent’s performance. Works with the CLIA license holders and administration to ensure quality laboratory services and regulatory compliance. Judgment affects the outcome of direct patient care processes and includes not only the employees working in the department, but all of the facilities employees and their ability to function effectively.

The WMC Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of Nursing Care Services at Wrangell Medical Center. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from neonate to geriatric. Assures appropriate competency of all nursing personnel. Serves as part of WMC’s senior management team; may act for the WMC Hospital Administrator in his/her absence; provides direct input regarding the organizational structure of the hospital; provides expert professional assistance to hospital executives regarding nursing-related matters; and performs other related duties as assigned. Assists in formulating the budget for assigned departments and maintains efficient and effective departmental operations while required compliance with all state, federal and local regulations, laws, standards, and protocols.



This position describes the highest-level senior manager over nursing-related patient care within the Wrangell Medical Center (WMC) and also serves as the chief expert for the hospital regarding professional nursing issues. The incumbent has broad responsibility and accountability for assigned programs, functions and operations and serves as a key member of WMC senior leadership team.
