Does your doctor ask you all these questions?
Don’t you think they should?

We are used to getting passed around between specialists that look at all of your different body systems, parts, and conditions separately, and who don’t talk to each other.

The power and beauty of Chinese medicine is that it’s all interconnected - and we view it and treat it that way.

Some people are surprised about how in depth we get - often they haven’t discussed their health so comprehensively with so much unrushed time to piece it all together. With a practitioner to whom it makes sense as a whole. And can then facilitate your body’s natural ability to heal without an Rx.

For those who have felt like a mystery, a puzzle with missing pieces. You make sense.

In line with my recent reel on dampness - I’ve recommended roasted carrots to several people this past week because they boost spleen qi, and they’ve said “omg, I’ve been craving those and making them like crazy!” The body is wise!

An easy rule of thumb is that yellow/orange is the color associated with the spleen/stomach, or earth element - foods of that color support digestive qi. So, other options: roasted spaghetti squash, yellow summer squash, sweet potatoes, butternut squash. 🧡💛🧡

I made mine with grated ginger and roasted at 350 until they were done 😆🥕

Have you been told or suspect that you have “dampness” but you’re not sure what that means?
In Chinese medicine, if spleen qi is weak, dampness is likely to accumulate.
We make qi from food/drink/breathing (nutrients, hydration, oxygen) - it’s what makes us living breathing beings.

Qi is responsible for circulating your blood and body fluids.

Spleen qi in particular is responsible for “separating clear from turbid” - aka raising clear energy to your head so you can think and remember clearly, and descends waste material through the system to the bladder & intestines to be eliminated.
If spleen qi is weak, that “turbidity” gets mixed with the “clear” and you have muddy waters, so to speak. Bloating, swelling or puffiness in the legs or face, sticky stools or sluggish digestion, brain fog, skin issues like acne or oily skin, chronic mucus/congestion, yeast infections/chronic discharge, plaque in the arteries, and more.

Chinese medicine puts a name to this concept many of us experience but didn’t know was all connected, or that you could do something about it!

Dampness can contribute to or be part of issues down the line like fertility struggles, stubborn weight gain, high cholesterol, dementia, edema, the list goes on.

Acupuncture, herbs, and some strategic lifestyle changes can help a lot!

Eye health 👁️👃👁️ is as important as ever, especially if you’re looking at a screen all day for your job. Eye strain is primarily caused by prolonged near-focus and blinking up to 66% less often, which results in dry, irritated eyes. In TCM, the liver and eyes are connected - the liver is the wood element - benefited by moving, reaching, directing your gaze outward, to the sky or across a sea of treetops.

Acupuncture book club moment: on the topic of the restriction of time and availability actually having the impact of making you more creative and productive. This is the effect of regulating Qi - without structure, it hemorrhages and leaks.

I love giving personalized book recs to my acupuncture patients. And sometimes they actually read them! Haha

I had the pleasure of attending one of Cailin’s sound baths combined with restorative yoga last month. It was incredible! Truly like a sound journey, that had me drifting out on solar winds and riding cosmic waves before returning to myself with a new vibration. We decided to join together to offer a sound journey with the gong combined with acupuncture + reiki! You’ll have the option of either being in a zero gravity chair (6 chairs available) or on a yoga mat. You’ll receive acupuncture to promote relaxation and relieve stress, followed by reiki with acupressure and essential oils while listening to the soundscapes Cailin creates on the gong. This is accessible to everyone, and requires no special skills to participate other than simply listening and letting go!

HOW TO GET THERE: You’ll drive around the BACK of our building and loop around to the left - there’s a ramp that goes up to the second level. Enter that door, and you’ll see the yoga sign at the top of the indoor ramp. You’ll find us through the door to the right! Text 845-393-4825 to register, or if you need help finding it, or with any questions!
