Nettle is a postpartum powerhouse - it’s a galactagogue meaning it promotes breast milk production. It is high in iron, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins.

Oatstraw is also rich in vitamins and minerals and relieves stress, anxiety, and mood swings. It can also help with milk let-down. Stamina, energy, and nervous system support too.

Acupuncture facilitates your body's optimal natural processes. I couldn't be luckier that my husband is literally an acupuncturist who can provide this for me during labor itself as well as labor-prep! One of my professors used to lead an acupuncture internship at a labor and delivery unit in NYC. We brought up the possibility to an L&D nurse at our hospital of Zach bringing acupuncture needles to the labor and delivery room for me, and the department showed interest in incorporating it as a natural comfort/pain relief measure on their unit! Acupuncture is going cool places in the integrative medicine world :)

Pre-labor prep acupuncture is a super valuable tool that I love using with patients in our office leading up to their deliveries. We used points like LI4, SP6, GB21, UB60 (points usually contraindicated in early pregnancy because of their down-bearing effect and ability to stimulate uterine contractions), as well as points like GB34 to relax tendons and ligaments, and GB41 + SJ5 to open the dai mai or "belt/girdle channel" to facilitate further opening, relaxation, and descension. It's also very calming to anxiety and nerves which can otherwise be an obstacle to labor progression.

Consistency is 🗝!
As you build your foundation and momentum with a series of treatments, you shift into a new default state of being. Your body more easily holds on to the results because it is familiar with what we are asking it to do. It requires regular, consistent inputs to get to this point, but once you're there, you really only need a tune-up every once in a while in order to remind your body what to do. Sometimes we are working on things that are complex, cyclical, and ever-evolving, in which case you might need to come more often (think auto-immune conditions, endometriosis, Lyme's disease, etc). For things like sports injuries, usually a shorter series is needed to achieve resolution. Everyone is unique and we are here to tailor things to your needs!

We all know as the weather warms up, ticks run rampant in the Hudson Valley and upstate NY. Lyme's Disease is unfortunately highly prevalent in the Hudson Valley, making it one of the most affected areas in the U.S.

While it may not always be preventable, if you do contract Lyme's, there are many ways that acupuncture can help in both the acute and chronic phases.
