Folic Acid is an important B vitamin that helps the body make healthy new cells. While everyone needs folic acid, people who are pregnant, or plan on becoming pregnant, need extra folic acid supplementation in addition to eating vitamin-rich foods. Getting enough folic acid before and during pregnancy can prevent major birth defects in a developing baby’s spine and brain.
Some foods with folic acid include:
🥬 Leafy green vegetables
🍑 Fresh, frozen, and canned fruits
🫘Dried or canned beans, fresh or frozen peas, and nuts
🍞Enriched breads, cereals, and other whole grain products

When your baby is around 6 months old and developmentally ready, the holidays are a great time to introduce new flavors and textures You can easily adapt many single-ingredient holiday dishes for your little one:
Soft, mashed vegetables: Think mashed sweet potatoes or pureed green beans from the family meal.
Pureed meats: Offer soft, pureed turkey or ham (ensure it's low in sodium).
Iron-fortified cereal: A familiar base like oatmeal is always a good option .
Important Reminders:
Introduce only one new food every 2-3 days and watch for allergic reactions.
Learning to eat takes time, so be patient and follow your baby's lead amidst the holiday hustle and bustle.
Remember, they will still get all of their nutrition from breastmilk and/or formula until they are 1 year old!
WIC is always here to help you navigate feeding your baby during the festive season and beyond.
