Why should you stop?
Continuous exposure to distressing news can lead to feelings of anxiety, sadness, and even panic attacks. For individuals already struggling with depression or anxiety, doomscrolling can exacerbate these conditions by reinforcing negative thoughts and emotions.

Doomscrolling can create a feedback loop where negative news triggers negative emotions, which then leads to more doomscrolling in an attempt to understand or cope with the situation, even though it ultimately worsens the emotional state.

Some studies suggest that doomscrolling activates dopamine release in the brain, creating a sense of temporary reward despite the negative emotions, which can contribute to addictive behaviors and make it harder to break the habit.

Trying to communicate with someone who has different beliefs from you can be uncomfortable, but there are ways to make the conversation more productive.

Most importantly, practice empathy:
Try to understand the emotions behind their beliefs. Recognizing the personal significance of their views can foster a more compassionate dialogue. By approaching the conversation with respect and curiosity, you can create a more open environment for discussing differing beliefs.

Other things you can do are to:
Speak with kindness and respect.
Relaxing your posture and body language. Avoiding disrespectful words like swearing or name-calling.
Taking a deep breath and having a second to think before responding.
Respecting your loved one's right to have their own opinion and feelings.
