Let's talk about the amazing achievements of the doctor and inventor Dr. Patricia Bath. Dr. Bath helped restore or improve vision to millions of patients worldwide. Dr. Bath was particularly focused on combating preventable blindness in underserved populations and was one of the first to document that Black patients had a double the rate of glaucoma.

Notably, Dr. Bath is most well known as the inventor of laser cataract surgery becoming the first Black woman physician to receive a medical patent. Throughout her career, Dr. Bath continued to break down barriers by becoming the first woman chair of ophthalmology in the United States and the first woman faculty member at the UCLA Eye Institute.
