Indiana Governor Mike Braun issued an emergency declaration for Indiana and received federal approval to address the winter storm.

⚠️ Indiana has now declared a state of emergency due to heavy snow incoming tonight into tomorrow. The worse of the storm is not here yet! If you do not have to travel tonight or tomorrow, we recommend you don't!

Well, as you may have heard, a rather large snow event is on a collision course with southern Indiana this weekend.

Information provided to public safety and personnel earlier today indicates that we will have bands of snow starting in southern Indiana around midday tomorrow, Saturday 1/24. We will receive snow throughout the afternoon and evening tomorrow. However, the extremely heavy snow will arrive early on Sunday 1/25 and last for most of the day. The forecast will possibly change in the next couple of days.

Regardless of how much snow we get, one thing is for sure, the snow along with the incoming frigid temps will make conditions on our roads extremely treacherous over the next 2-3 days with some roads becoming impassable.

▪️Watch for travel advisories that will start being issued for counties. Remember, a red travel advisory means that only essential personnel should be on our roadways

▪️ Use 511in.org or the INDOT Trafficwise to see live images of conditions across our area

▪️Do not call dispatch centers to ask about road conditions. Our dispatchers will be extremely busy and our lines should remain open for emergency calls.

▪️If you plan to be on the roads at all this weekend:

✔️Full gas tank
✔️Full washer fluid reservoir
✔️Tire pressure checked
✔️Emergency kit
✔️Phone charger
✔️Snacks and water
✔️Slow down
✔️Increase following distance

Troopers will be working long hours, making passes on our main roads to check on those who may be stranded. Due to the conditions and the number of calls we receive, it may take awhile before we can get to you if you get stuck.

Give all first responders and road crews plenty of room to work for everyone’s safety.
