15/08/2025

LifeVac is a portable, non-invasive suction device designed to help clear airway obstructions during choking emergencies. It's become a popular backup option when traditional methods like the Heimlich maneuver fail. Here's a quick overview:

🛠️ How LifeVac Works
LifeVac uses a simple three-step process:

Place the mask over the nose and mouth to create a seal.

Push the plunger down to compress air.

Pull the plunger up to create suction and remove the obstruction.

Its one-way valve ensures that air doesn’t push the object further down the airway.

📦 What’s in the Kit
Typical kits include:

1 LifeVac device

1 adult mask

1 pediatric mask

Optional practice mask

Travel or home storage bag

Masks should be replaced every 2–3 years, though the device itself doesn’t expire.

Self-administerable in solo choking scenarios

No prescription required

HSA/FSA eligible

Used by over 10,000 organizations globally

FDA Regulated

Manufactured in USA

Free replacement when used on choking victim

5,000 victims saved to date

⚠️ Considerations
Should be used only after standard choking protocols fail

🛒 Where to Buy
Purchase your LifeVac today by contacting Brock Safety Consultants, LLC (765) 792-0365. Your cost just $75.00

Difference Between Paramedics and EMTs
Overview

Both emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics are critical first responders within emergency medical services (EMS). They work together to stabilize patients on-scene and transport them safely to definitive care. The primary distinction lies in the depth of training, scope of practice, and level of responsibility each holds.

Education & Training
EMTs complete a foundational course—typically around 170 to 200 hours—covering basic life support, patient assessment, CPR, oxygen delivery, splinting, and limited medication administration. No prior medical background is required; successful candidates must pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam and obtain state licensure.

Paramedics build on EMT training with an additional 1,200 to 1,800 hours of education, often lasting six to twelve months. Their curriculum dives into anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, EKG interpretation, advanced airway management, IV therapy, and invasive procedures.

Education & Training Comparison
Aspect EMT Paramedic
Minimum Hours ~170–200 ~1,200–1,800
Prerequisite High school diploma, CPR-BLS EMT certification, high school diploma, CPR-BLS
National Certification NREMT-EMT exam NREMT-Paramedic exam
Typical Duration 3–6 months 6–12 months
Scope of Practice
EMTs

Provide basic life support (BLS): CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, oxygen therapy, bleeding control, splinting.

Administer a limited set of medications (e.g., epinephrine auto-injectors, glucose, nitroglycerin) under protocols.

Paramedics

Deliver advanced life support (ALS): endotracheal intubation, cricothyrotomy, needle decompression.

Establish and manage intravenous (IV) lines, interpret 12-lead ECGs, and administer a broad spectrum of medications.

Lead on-scene care decisions and coordinate with medical control for complex interventions.

Responsibilities in the Field
Both roles respond to 911 calls, work in ambulances, and may assist in emergency departments. In practice:

EMTs perform rapid patient assessment and basic interventions, ensuring stability during transport.

Paramedics manage critical care scenarios, perform invasive procedures, and often take command on severe or multi-patient incidents.

Certification & Licensing
EMT

Requirements: high school diploma or GED, CPR-BLS certification.

Certification: NREMT-EMT exam and state licensure.

Recertification: either continuing education (40 hours) or passing recertification exam.

Paramedic

Requirements: EMT certification plus prerequisites set by training program (e.g., anatomy courses).

Certification: NREMT-Paramedic exam and state licensure.

Recertification: continuing education (60 hours) or recertification exam.

Salary & Career Outlook
Paramedics generally command higher salaries than EMTs due to their advanced skills and greater responsibilities. According to national averages, EMTs earn a median wage of around $38,000–$45,000, whereas paramedics typically range from $45,000–$60,000 annually. Factors such as geographic region, employer type (private ambulance vs. fire department), and additional specialties can influence pay.

Beyond the Basics
Career Pathways: Many EMTs use their experience as a springboard into nursing, respiratory therapy, or physician assistant programs.

Specializations: Paramedics can pursue critical care transport, community paramedicine, or tactical EMS roles.

Continuous Growth: Both roles require ongoing education—explore online CME options or local workshops to stay current.
