My Reiki Story
I learned about Reiki from my massage therapist (shout out to Nicolas Sorenson at Embody Wellness in Provo, Ut) as I was working on a personal goal to manage life-long depression. I have gone through year long bouts of depression in a cycle of every 3 years. The last cycle began after I had my 3rd child and was accompanied by anxiety attacks. I was also working as a teacher at a treatment center for adolescent youth and absorbing all of their anxiety.
As I met with Nic, for once he made me hopeful that maybe I don’t have to live with depression the rest of my life, and he taught me that my perceived weaknesses may be my strengths. Then, he introduced me to the world of energy work. I had already been researching and practicing meditation on my own, which I believe prepared me for the biggest life change.
After one Reiki session, I received such revelation and guidance. It was truly healing and just a start to my journey. I started attending energy conferences, reading books, and talking with others who are trained in various modalities. I new inside of me that I had to be trained in Reiki, and I lept. As I continued to practice mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and Reiki, my living space and my attitude were transformed. My anxiety eased. My peace increased. My ability to block negative energy of others strengthened. Long-held beliefs that were not serving me drifted away softly.
And now I can help others on the same path. There is physical healing in releasing trauma. There is spiritual healing in honesty with yourself. There is more room for love for others when you love yourself enough to accept healing.
