🌿 GERD Awareness Week: Let’s Look Beyond the Acid 🌿

Heartburn isn’t just about too much acid — it’s often about why that acid is escaping in the first place. From a functional health standpoint, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) can be linked to deeper imbalances like low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria), sluggish digestion, gut dysbiosis, or stress that impacts the vagus nerve. Sometimes the medications typically given for GERD can actually worsen the underlying problem.

Instead of masking symptoms with medications alone, we focus on restoring balance:✨ Supporting healthy digestion with mindful eating🥦 Choosing whole, anti-inflammatory foods🧘‍♀️ Managing stress and improving gut-brain connection💧 Avoiding triggers like late-night meals, alcohol, and processed foods

🤍 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🤍

Our lungs do more than help us breathe — they fuel every cell in the body with oxygen and play a key role in detoxification and immune health. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, but awareness and prevention can make a powerful difference.

From a functional health standpoint, supporting lung and overall cellular health means:🌿 Reducing exposure to toxins, smoke, and pollutants🥦 Eating antioxidant-rich foods to combat inflammation🏃‍♀️ Moving daily to improve circulation and oxygenation🧘 Practicing deep breathing, mindfulness, and stress reduction💧 Staying hydrated to support natural detox pathways

💜 November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month 💜

The pancreas plays a powerful role in your health — it helps regulate blood sugar and digestion. Pancreatic cancer is often called a “silent disease” because symptoms can be subtle or appear late. That’s why awareness and prevention matter.

From a functional health standpoint, we focus on supporting the pancreas through:🥦 A nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet🚫 Limiting processed foods, sugars, and alcohol that strain the pancreas💪 Supporting healthy blood sugar balance🧘‍♀️ Reducing chronic inflammation and oxidative stress
While we can’t always prevent cancer, we can strengthen the environment that helps our cells thrive.

🤰🏻I have not officially posted it on here but many of you know that I am pregnant and due with my second baby in December. 🎄

I thought it would be fun to do a little guessing game of when baby will actually come… so send me your guesses on day and time and whoever gets the closest will get $50 off of any service or product! Also if you want to throw in guesses of weight and length, I’ll give another $50 off for that closest guess as well!

My official due date is December 19th. This is my second child and my first came 2 days early. I am having a girl this time.

Happy Guessing!! 😁

Oh the initial days of Covid…

That was a wild time to be a provider. This picture is how we were often dressed for 12 hours at a time while testing for and treating COVID all day. I’m not gonna lie I do not miss that but I sure did learn a lot! 🦠 😷

I was not even officially an RN here but one of the coolest experiences I’ve had in nursing was the mission trip I took to Tanzania while in nursing school. We were there for a month helping at the local mission hospital. 🐘 🦒 🌍 👩🏻‍⚕️

The first picture is of me with the baby I was able to help deliver. 👶🏾

Pictures 2-4 are of me donating my blood and being able to hang it for the baby that needed it. This is still to this day one of the coolest experiences I’ve had! 🩸

Picture 5 is one of many surgeries we were able to scrub in for.

Picture 6 is of the awesome group I traveled with.

Picture 7 is of the local church. Another very cool experience is hearing the songs I grew up singing being sang in Swahili. It is a beautiful language and was a great reminder of how when we meet at church on sundays to worship our savior there are people all over world doing the same! What a beautiful sound it must be to God! 🎶✝️

I think I truly fell in love with nursing while on this trip. Happy Nurse Practitioner Week! 🩺

This week is National Nurse Practitioner Week!

As an NP, I’m so grateful to do what I love every day—helping people feel their best, listening to their stories, and partnering with them on their health journey. Nurse practitioners are all about combining medical expertise with compassion and connection.

This week, I’m celebrating all my fellow NPs who go above and beyond for their patients—educating, empowering, and caring from the heart. 💉💬💚
Here’s to making a difference, one patient at a time!

Throughout the week I will share a little bit about my time as a nurse and nurse practitioner and some of the amazing experiences I have had.

Managing and Treating Diabetes
While there’s no cure for diabetes, effective treatment can keep blood sugar in a healthy range and prevent complications. Treatment plans are individualized but often include:• Healthy eating: Focus on whole foods, lean proteins, fiber, and limiting added sugars and refined carbs. 🥦🍎• Regular physical activity: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week to improve insulin sensitivity. 🏃‍♀️• Medications or insulin therapy: Some people may need oral medications, non-insulin injectables, or insulin to manage blood sugar levels. 💉• Routine monitoring: Checking blood glucose regularly helps track progress and guide adjustments. 📊• Lifestyle support: Managing stress, getting quality sleep, and regular follow-ups with healthcare providers are key parts of care. 🌿

With consistent management, people with diabetes can live long, healthy, and active lives. Education, support, and small daily choices truly make a difference. 💙

Understanding the Complications of Diabetes
When blood sugar stays high over time, it can affect nearly every system in the body. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to serious complications such as:• Heart disease and stroke ❤️• Kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy) 🩸• Nerve damage causing pain or numbness (neuropathy) 🦶• Vision loss or blindness (retinopathy) 👁️• Poor circulation and slow-healing wounds, sometimes leading to amputations 🚶‍♂️

The good news is that most complications are preventable with good management. Regular checkups, balanced nutrition, physical activity, and keeping blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol in healthy ranges all make a big difference. Staying proactive today helps protect your health for years to come. 💙

Recognizing the Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes
Early detection is key when it comes to diabetes. Common symptoms can develop gradually and are often overlooked. Watch for:• Increased thirst and frequent urination 💧• Unexplained weight changes ⚖️• Fatigue or feeling unusually tired 😴• Blurred vision 👀• Slow-healing cuts or frequent infections 🩹• Tingling or numbness in hands and feet 🦶

If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider and get your blood sugar checked. Early diagnosis and management can help prevent serious complications and support long-term health. 💙

Understanding the Causes and Risk Factors for Diabetes
Diabetes develops when the body can’t properly use or produce insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. While genetics can play a role, lifestyle factors are major contributors. Being overweight, leading a sedentary lifestyle, or eating a diet high in refined carbohydrates and processed foods can all increase risk. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a history of gestational diabetes are also key warning signs.
The good news is that Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable. Regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, eating balanced meals rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, and managing stress can all help keep blood sugar levels steady and reduce risk. Education and early action make all the difference. 💙
