In Wisconsin we see the dependency of sporadic federal monies as a factor of Wisconsin EMS’ foundation of public service eroding. A federal stimulus distributed through the office of the Governor doesn’t act upon the root-cause analysis of making EMS an essential service at the state level. Ambulance services, like fire and law, need to be receiving local & state funds to guarantee the response of 911 responders. As it pains me to say during economic challenges - we need to push EMS up the priority list for funding, equal to their peers in public service.
This issue isn’t unique to Wisconsin, it’s everywhere, we need to better our systems.
In rural communities, emergency services providers are struggling to secure funding and staff. A new EMS outreach manager is hoping to change that.
