“What is an MRI, actually?”
Think of those cross-section displays you’ve seen in science museums—showing the body layer by layer.
That’s essentially what an MRI does.
Instead of physically slicing anything, MRI uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of your body while you lie still—often watching a movie or listening to music.
These images are captured in thin “slices” and can be viewed together to better understand your organs, soft tissues, spine, and brain.
This allows radiologists to evaluate differences between normal tissue and potential abnormalities, such as inflammation, masses, or structural changes.
