We are pleased to announce we were selected for McRae Harvey's Community Bag Program for the month of March! For every reusable bag you purchase, our organization will receive $1! Please consider purchasing one (or more!) of these bags to benefit our environment as well as enable us to give back to our veterans.

Thank you, Telfair County Elementary School for the wonderful Veterans Day program we were honored to attend this morning. I was able to sneak a photo of the Chorus. Proud to be part of this community!

The American Legion Auxiliary would like to announce that the Special Holiday Edition Spookiest Yard of the Month goes to two homes this year! The neighboring yards belong to Girlie Anderson, Edwin Neal and Elaine Neal on Kurt Avenue! We saw several attractive and spooky yards in town but felt theirs showed the most ghoulish spirit. We want to thank our winners and everyone else who participates in making their yards look attractive and contribute overall to a more beautiful town.

The next Special Edition Holiday Yard of the Month will be announced in December. We look forward to seeing what our McRae-Helena residents can do!

We just want to take a moment to celebrate the life of Joe Clark Shepherd. He was a very special person in our community and in our organization. He will be greatly missed and we are praying for his family, friends, and our fellow veteran family.

Joe Clark Shepherd, 77, of Chauncey, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 in the Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Joe was a native of Dodge County and was the son of the late Lennis Clark Shepherd and Bernice Kirkley Shepherd. He was retired from the State of Georgia DNR where he repaired Historical Sights. During his career Joe built many Stuckey stores around the country. He served in the United States Air Force as a Supply Technician. Joe was instrumental in establishing the Telfair American Legion Post #80, where he held the position of Adjutant. He was passionate about helping anyone but especially veterans. He was a member of the VFW Post 4742 in Cordele, Georgia, a member of the VVA Chapter 1082 in Fitzgerald, Georgia and a member of DAV of Macon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Lowe’s Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Telfair American Legion Post #80, 15 7th Ave., McRae Helena, Georgia 31055.
Survivors include is his wife, Toyoko Shepherd of Chauncey; daughter, Tanya Shepherd of Dallas, Texas; son, Carl Shepherd of Chauncey and his wife Karen; 3 grandchildren, Dallas , Christopher, Alyssa; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Katherine English of South Carolina, Mary Nell Bailey of Florida; 1 brother, Phillip Shepherd of Alabama.

The American Legion Auxiliary wants to announce a special Holiday Edition Yard of the month for both October and December 2019. For October, we will be searching for the spookiest, most creative yard and in December, the most attractive and inspiring for the season. We will be doing a drive through of town toward the end of each month, but if you live outside of city limits or want to be sure your home is considered, please send an "RSVP" email to President Molly Ussery at mollybbussery@gmail.com.

Oct 23- Deadline to RSVP for October Yard of the Month

Oct 25- Committee will be doing their tours of town to pick a winner

Oct 30- October Winner will be announced

Dec 11- Deadline to RSVP for December Yard of the Month

We can't wait to see how creative and festive the yards of Telfair County will be this holiday season!

The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) would like to welcome the new President of Unit 80, Molly Ussery. First on Molly's agenda as President was a mid-term school supply drive which was delivered to Telfair County Elementary School Tuesday, February 5. Pictured are Molly Ussery, ALA "mascot" Lilly Ussery, Son of a Legion Joe Curtis, Lynda Bentley, and former President, Jean Graham.

Unit 80 would like to THANK Jean Graham ("WHOO!") for all of the hard work and dedication she has shown our organization. We would not be where we are today without the time and energy she has brought to the table for the last four years.
