Tax Season is over and for most people it marks the end of a hectic time of frantically gathering receipts, bank statements, and other tax documents and then trying to put them in some sort of cohesive order so that your tax person doesn’t charge you an arm (and a leg?!?!) for sorting things out- and all while hoping that you actually managed to remember all the business transacted during the 365 days which comprised 2025. Sound familiar?

Fortunately for 100% of my bookkeeping clients this was NOT the case because they spent the holiday season enjoying family and friends- and the month of January recovering from them 😉 All because the hard stuff was already handled- by me.

What do I even offer and what does it look like? I offer remote bookkeeping and tax services, accessible from the comfort of your home or business- and it's easy to get started.

Step One:
Filling out the New Bookkeeping Client questionnaire at my website www.obrianaccounting.com

Step Two:
Extend to me an invite to act as an "accountant user" with your current booking software. Don’t have software that you use? No worries, I can help set you up with an affordable option that works within your needs!

Step Three:
Once a month (or quarter- depending on your needs), send over the business bank, loan, and credit card statements for the prior period, along with notations on anything new for the period.

Step Four:
Oh wait, that's it. You're done and I'm handling the rest.

OUTSOURCING IN TAXES? You might not be aware but many firms (both big and small) are starting to outsource payroll, bookkeeping, and even tax preparation to widen profit their margins and help with volume flow. Many of these firms are even going outside the US for their outsourcing. I am not going to dive into the various opinions on overseas outsourcing, that’s not what this is about. I just want to bring awareness that this is happening in the first place. Your specialized, educated, and (hopefully) licensed professional might just be someone reading off a script in a call center, or even AI!

I want to make you aware that I will NEVER outsource my work. You will always get personal attention from someone who knows who you are and wants to help you and see you succeed in life. I will never share you private information with someone else to save a dollar, that’s just ludicrous. And I will always ensure that your data, both physical and electronic, remain secure with me. This is a trusting relationship we are building, not a quick fling.

I hate to break it to you, but 99.9% of what you have heard about the new tax changes for 2025 filing is FALSE. It might be close enough to the truth to just be one shade off, but false is still false no matter how much it smacks like reality. ✌️

That said, tax professionals like me do this for a living. I have studied these laws to the detriment of my social life so that my clients can hand me their information at the end of the year and not have to think about it again. That’s priceless peace of mind if you ask me 😉

Get to know me with several truths and a lie- can you figure the lie out?

* I married my first (and only) boyfriend.

* I have two grown(ish) children that I love so much!

* I have three cat children that I also love so much...and who give me much less guff than my human children!

* I was in a movie with Kate Hudson when I was younger.

* I played basketball through middle and high school, which turned into my college "career" as an adult. I haven't played since, except the occasional game of "horse" to show my husband I still have it (although I was defense so.....)

* I wanted to be an architect or a teacher growing up.

* I have prepared the tax returns for a quasi-celebrity from television (no I won't say who).

* My favorite (and also least favorite) place I ever lived was San Diego!

* I am obsessed with Florida vacations and Universal Studios is always a must- after the beach of course. Florida is my happy place. Give me palm trees and sunshine!

* I love to read. In fact, I schedule an hour at the start and also at the finish of my day to make sure I have time for it! Self-care is a must!

* I also love to bake and cook...ask me for some sourdough to go along with your completed tax returns and I'll probably comply haha

Common misconception: anyone can prepare tax returns as long as they have IRS credentials.

Sometimes right but mostly WRONG, especially when it comes to our lovely 50 states and their vastly different rules- and Oregon specifically. In AND OUT OF, Oregon, only a person LICENSED IN OREGON can prepare an Oregon tax return. Even if you live in another state and are filling as an Oregon non-resident, you HAVE to have an Oregon licensed preparer to prepare that Oregon return. We're unique like that :)
