I think that as the world gets crazier and weirder and more divisive, this becomes more and more important. If you slow down, try to look past your annoyance with someone else's opinion, especially when it feels offensive to you, and ASK QUESTIONS, it not only helps you understand, but gives them a chance to be heard. And really, if you've ever worked in customer service for any amount of time, you know that's what most people really want. People want to be heard. People want to know that someone cares about how they feel, what their experience has been and why they feel the way they do. And often, when someone is sharing their own experience, they find their way to understanding. And so, by witnessing instead of judging, we not only offer ourselves an opportunity for understanding, we may be offering them the same thing.
Other people's experiences aren't about us. They are built around the lessons they came to this planet at this exact time to learn. We are ALL learners here. And its important to remember that if someone else's opinion frustrates you, your opinion has frsutrated someone else. Wouldn't it be lovely if they asked WHY you feel the way you feel instead of telling you how wrong you are?
